The time at last has come to switch to a new art style. Watching the art style I started out with grow from something mediocre and unremarkable to something that I can call my own has been wonderful. Alas, I've grown to be quite dissatisfied with it these days, for I feel like, as nice as the style looks at its highest quality, it's now doing nothing but holding me back. I kept drawing in it because I believed it was the style people expected of me, but I always knew deep down I didn't want it to be the one and only way I draw all my life. I've always experimented with new styles and techniques, but I never had the confidence to see if trying something new would work out. But, as you can see above, that changes now.
This redesign of Maya is the first drawing I've made in this new style, and I like how it turned out very much. Though Maya's original design's adorable, it always had a generic look to me, and never felt like it exemplified anything I was into. But the redesign definitely represents that which interests me and my general design philosophy, and I'm going to enjoy seeing what I can do to bring her to life via animation.
This was a long time coming, but it's the start of a whole new chapter.
