"Do you ever go to over to Leo's anymore?" asked Lasai. The young caracal boy turned the television from the movie setting to the video games setting. It was normal for the caracal to be dressed down. "Not since he got a girlfriend," answered the puma. His name was Dillon, and he didn't have a lot of friends. "Oh right," responded Lasai. Dillon remained quiet. The puma was still uncomfortable being as dressed down as he was, and he often avoided glancing at the caracal. "Seems everyone in our class are getting girlfriends... Is there a girl that you have a crush on?" Dillon was slow to respond, but a few moments later, he answered, "Not really. There's no girl I like." Lasai hesitated before pushing the conversation a little bit. "No girl, but do you like anyone else?" The puma gave his best friend a quizzical look and skewed his eyebrows. "Not really." "I... I wouldn't mind," the caracal said. His shoulders were a bit hunched and and gave a solemn look at Dillon. His was uncomfortable but he had wanted to get this off his chest for a long time. "I don't care if anyone is gay or anything." "Okay..." Dillon replied and looked away. Lasai wanted to retreat from the conversation, but there's underlying need to get it out compelled him to push forward. "Would... would you mind if someone in class was gay?" Dillon didn't answer immediately. I knew he was raised religiously but he's mentioned it before that he doesn't particularly care for it. "I suppose not." Both were uncomfortable and Lasai was ready to push it a bit further. "I... I think I... might... like a... boy." The caracal spoke so softly that it was barely heard. He left off the part that the boy he liked was the one he was speaking to now. Dillon on the other hand had his heart racing. He didn't quite know what to make of these feelings. Fear that he might lose his best friend, and yet almost an anger that his friend liked someone else. It was his first experience with jealousy, and his denial of his base feelings just made the situation all the more confusing. |
