Slang is a character from a homebrew fantasy world I created. He is a Reptile Man, one of a race of intelligent reptilians inhabiting the Great Wastes far to the east of Valek City. Reptile Men maintain a primitive tribal culture in these desolate wastes. Lacking the skill to forge metal, they trade for it with passing caravans, serving as guards in exchange. It was in this capacity that Slang encountered the wizard Gartrist the Pantologist some twenty years ago, when the caravan Slang and his fellow Reptile Men were escorting was attacked by desert raiders. While generally disdainful and contemptuous of humans, Slang found Gartrist intriguing, and decided to someday visit the human lands and see what they were like.
Slang is a Reptile Man, stronger than a human being, with scaly skin, claws, teeth, and a tail. He is well-adapted to a desert climate, able to endure the burning sun, searing heat, bitter cold, and windblown sand without discomfort, and go for days without water. He wields a spear with great effectiveness, and is a skilled hunter and tracker. While he cannot read or write, and is generally ignorant about the world outside the Great Wastes, he is quite intelligent, and fiercely loyal to those few he calls friends. He is a somewhat stoic individual, accepting both good and bad fortune with equanimity. His philosophy of life can be summed up as "What is, is."
