one interesting (to me, at least) thing about sea kittens is the way that they eat.
they are carnivorous, mostly preying on fish and birds and other small creatures. they will also eat kelp, seaweed and some fruits and vegetables. they are toothless, instead having hardened gums which clamp down onto their prey, and 3-6 prehensile tongues which strangle it to death.
they then halfway swallow the meal into their elastic throat-sacs, which are lined with sharp, tooth-like protrusions that grind away at the food as its swallowed. this removes feathers, scales, or other indigestible matter from the meal, which is later vomited up as a sort of "hairball". once sufficiently "chewed", the sea kitten either fully swallows the meal, or regurgitates it into their offspring's mouth.
