"The midday sun filtered through the green canopy, casting shifting patterns across the forest floor as a gentle breeze stirred the branches. Birds sang brightly overhead, their calls weaving with the steady rustle of leaves. It was a fine day by all accounts, though not one shared by every soul beneath the trees.
A heavy figure stood amidst the quiet, steel breastplate glinting as he shifted his stance. Milo’s horns curled proudly from his head, but his expression was far from noble. A broad sheet of parchment trembled in his hands, creased and worn from long study. His bright green eyes narrowed at its markings, nose wrinkling in irritation beneath the gleam of a golden ring.
“Capsburrow,” he muttered, voice roughened by travel. “Eight days, it said. Eight days…” His thick finger pressed hard into the faded ink, tracing where the rabbit capitol was drawn. Yet all about him lay only trunks and undergrowth, the endless press of forest stretching on without sign of walls, spires, or burrows.
Milo’s ears sagged beneath the weight of his horns as a bead of sweat traced its way down through his shaggy mane. He let the map drop to his side, lips curling in a growl. Turning slowly, he scanned the trees as though sheer stubbornness might summon the city into being. Nothing stirred save the leaves and the distant caw of a crow.
He shook the parchment once more, as if answers might shake loose from the creases. “This blasted map says I’m standing right on top of it,” he barked. But the forest offered no reply."
