Tails is the easiest protagonist to write for. Being a sleep-deprived and shy fox makes it easy for a romantic fan fic. Of course, he has moments of sassiness and times he acts like Sonic since Sonic is a huge influence on him. (Get uses for me to say that something like this 4 more times.)
