"I don't wanna be alone anymore..."
---
Last I posted, I stated how Yoshitaka Amano's concept art for Final Fantasy IX was nice, but didn't exactly hit the mark for the way that the game ended up taking shape in the final version. For the most part, I feel all of the characters look far better in their final designs then Amano's initial concepts...this cannot be said of today's subject!
While I have nothing against the character of Eiko, I've always felt that her design elicited a "What the hell am I looking at?" when I saw it. Her weird pink morph suit with sleeve gloves and neon yellow overalls just don't look like anything, let along something that fits into the eclectic fantasy world of FF9 and going into this I knew from the get go that I would have to do something to fix her.
This regrettably took far longer then I care to admit and I'm still not sure if I'm completely happy with it. I blame this mostly on the fact that her design is so odd and her concept art, while much better, also isn't anything I'm crazy for. My idea was to try and combine both with the idea that she's wearing old, leftover summoner's robes from her lost family as well as pants she stole from a dwarf in Conde Petie.
Not sure how well I pulled this off, but I do like it better then her actually design in game, so I guess at the end of the day I successfully did what I set out to do!
