Rex was born as a Tyrannosaur just before a meteor would wipe out the dinosaurs. Light Gaia found him before the extinction event, choosing him to defend life on the planet from the Doomlings. Rex was transformed into a mammal that would survive the meteor, and was granted unnaturally long life as well.
Rex would be the original holder of the Chaos Sword and become the leader of the Chaos Relic heroes. But beset by constant tragedy, Rex eventually betrayed his allies, merging his Gaia powers with the anti-life power of the Doomlings and transforming into Apocalos, creator and master of the Lost Ones. Basically... he was the main villain of the GeneX series up until Doomsday, the originally intended finale.
