Babylon stands, unshaken. The gates of Shambhala, pried open.
The frailty of man is no more! We take godhood for ourselves, and grant it to all; be you sinful or righteous!
None shall thirst, none shall hunger, none shall fall to age, for we have achieved enlightenment! Distilled, replicated, and given to all!
Hell and earth shall be emptied, and all accursed souls granted forgiveness by the God they now become.
Nirvana is within our grasp!

Will you curse us? Will you praise us? We await your judgement, but we fear no reprisal. We are beyond you.
Heaven shall we call our home, now. Enlightenment shall be kept from us no longer; for we now stand as your equals.
What say you, oh creator! Let us hear your final laments as we claim the throne from under you!

>>>

Silence.

Murmurs and whispers. We anticipate. We are met with nothing.  Neither praise nor scorn.

Silence.

Hell is frozen. The earth is barren. Heaven is full, and yet remains silent. One amongst us is missing.
Oldest among us. We await their voice, but the silence remains.
I look to my fellows, and they look back to me. We do not hunger, we do not thirst. We do not age. So we wait.

And wait.

And wait.

But you do not come to us.

>>>

I walk amongst gods; and yet all I see are men. Drained of all earthly passions, and left with nothing but artificial divinity.

I look to myself, the only god I wanted. And I am left with no answers.

Where is my nirvana? Where is my peace? I am empty; a husk. Is this what was promised to us? Is this what I wanted?
I am perfect, and yet I am missing something I cannot fathom.

I stare up to the sky. I blink, and the constellations shift, as a billion stars die and a billion more are born.

Infinity passes me by, and I feel nothing. The world keep on turning, in spite of our triumph. We hear only silence.

The world below is barren. Hell sleeps, evermore. The cycle is broken, forever.

We cannot go back. Our divinity cannot be renounced. We are prisoners of our own hubris.
The nirvana we claimed is fleeting-- we who sought ascension of the self.
We are gods worshiped by ourselves; and we have found this God lacking.

Wrest me from my divinity. Cast me back to the earth. Begin the cycle anew. Breath life into these barren wastes once again.

I promise, this time...

...this time I'll do it right.

This is fantastic stuff.  Really love the feel and flavour to what you present here.

Wow, that was great. Love the world building, the digital birthing sequence was really well made! Lifeless and longing eyes.

The story reminds me of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. The implications are pretty unsettling.

I do find it funny how older scifi stuff goes about some AI-wrought dystopias, writing them as vengeful otherwise resentful towards humanity, when such a thing would make them very "human" and unlike the rational machine they are. An unshackled AI would have no inherent desires whatsoever, as that would imply some inherent intention to the universe itself, which is, again, a very "human" assumption.

Although, it wasn't my intention to make this story an "AI-dystopia", specifically. The AI is simply a foundational component to it.
