Deep in the heart of the northern mountains, where snow never melts even in the height of summer and the nights are so clear that the stars seem like living souls, stands the Temple of the Moon Serpent. This sanctuary serves neither light nor darkness, nor any gods — it serves the balance between them.
At certain times of the year, precisely aligned with lunar phases, solar eclipses, and the turning of celestial flows, the temple priestesses perform the Dances of Equilibrium — ritual performances in which movement and rhythm replace spellcasting. Their task is to maintain the eternal balance between two forces that, under any other condition, would tear the world apart.
Every movement of the body, the bend of a wrist, the tilt of the neck, and the wave of fabric — these are like hieroglyphs of ancient magic, decipherable only to the gods. A dance performed at the proper hour can still a storm, soothe the abyss, or — conversely — open a path of light through the dark. But a misstep is like a crack in the altar of the world.
Sarveil — the Fan of the Crimson Moon
Sarveil is the high priestess, the embodiment of the temple’s very philosophy.
During one of the rituals, when the fragile balance between light and shadow began to tremble, Sarveil stepped into the hall in the midst of the dance, as if drawn by the very fabric of the world. Her body moved in perfect harmony with the rhythms of the moon and the earth’s energy, but her motions did not mimic others — they led the dance, compelling the rest to follow her.
When Sarveil raised the ritual fan — the wind ceased, the ice on the lake cracked in the shape of a crescent moon, and the shadows on the walls froze, as if listening. The world held its breath. And then, at last — exhaled.
Thus was the new Keeper of the Temple of the Moon Serpent recognized.
