Hey everyone, finally crawling out of the cave from this long hiatus with a (very late) life update. As you all know I'm not one to vent about my personal life online but this time it's for the sake of clarity.
A few months ago I got a HORRIBLE bout of dengue fever that left me one week in the hospital and 3 days in the ICU. I live in Brazil (dengue is very well studied here) and was in a top notch private hospital, but even so, there's no treatment for dengue, it was touch and go. My case was acute dengue with neurological manifestations, which means I almost died due to my body slowly being paralyzed by the virus (consider that heart, lungs, etc need to move in order to work, it was -that- serious).
I got out alive and grumpy Poochy as ever (damn mosquitoes) but unfortunately, the paresthesia is permanent.
Q: What is paresthesia?
A: Numbness/lack of sensation and severely dampened stability, in short. Mine will be lifelong most likely, and affects my feet and hands. It was up to my shoulders at first, then elbows a few months ago, but with careful recovery there was a big improvement and it went down to only my hands. That part is staying but I'm learning how to deal with it very fast because I'm a hyperactive Poochyena who cannot accept defeat (I'm typing this with little to no tactile feedback on a normal keyboard because I'm stubborn lmao)
Q: Can I still draw?
A: Fuck yeah, only very slowly until my hand-brain coordination improves. Same as ever art, no quality loss, only slower. Big part of my Physiotherapy is being done centered around drawing, now after months I can confidently, 100% say my work will remain the same!
Q: Why did I disappear for months if this was after dengue?
A: Because of physio to be able to still draw, and cuz many people don't like vaxes and I got influenza recently even though I have mine up to date, most likely during hospital or lab visits for exams in a waiting room somewhere. Big setback with the numbness thing because both diseases can cause or potentiate paresthesia, but this time at least the numbness stayed on my arms, it's now back to only my hands where it should stay.
Q: What is going on now about my art?
A: I have only 3 people to get back to with their finished art that got put on hold (damn angels who have been very patient and I love them, they know who they are), and only after that's done I will be opening new slots. I'm not risking getting into a long line of late work, I never did this and never will no matter how much I need to work to pay for things. This is just an update for anyone interested.
Q: What's next?
A: Finish these late slots, open more, back to doing art for all you beautiful creatures! Will update on estimated waiting time for each slot depending on how it's going when I open. I've recently moved to a better place irl which is a big thing for my health because it borders the rainforest here in Rio. This one has lots of outdoors space near the property so I can heal, do physio, exercise myself and my pets etc all at home or very close and take breaks as needed since I'm still sorta weak. I have a relative living with me for safety and extra help. An old house in the (rain)forest style, perfect for a 'hyeen like me >:3
Thank you everyone for the patience, kindness and worry. I got lots of messages, but a big part of my recovery was literally staying offline because doomscrolling and other stuff makes stress go up and things go even slower for health improvement (doctor's orders). Now I can go back online gently hehehe
I'm not asking for donations or anything but if someone wants to help, you can do that by contacting me via msgs, getting a slot when I open and/or tipping, anything helps!
Again, thank you all for being so wonderful to me and all the support I got, each note and message made tons of difference in my recovery çwç
See y'all soon when I open slots! ♥
