Maya was, at one point, kidnapped by traffickers. She fought back, and killed one of them when they went into her cage for um... reasons. When she was found out, she was tranq'd and bound, but they waited until she woke back up before ripping her left sickle claw out, root and all so it'll never grow back, as punishment for the killing.
