Lunarians hailed from a barren desert planet now known as the Looming. Rumor has it they were the leftovers of an even older and more forgotten race known only as Lumua. However, any information on these so called Lumuas have been completely lost, even to the Lunarians themselves.
Once, they headed a mighty theocratic empire surrounding a divine relic known as the Pale Moon. These Lunarians would distill the ichorous blood of the Pale Moon into a potent alchemical fuel dubbed "Tranquility", which they would eventually use to power all of their technology.
Under the guidance of Lunarian priests and priestesses, their race transformed the desert planet they called Lume into a fertile hub of civilization through trade and conquest. From there, they would eventually design and produce what they deemed to be the perfect warship for just about any combat scenario their greatest minds could come up with.
From vast, towering machines forming a network to transport water across their planet via the few aquifers they could find, to weapons of war big and small, and even the very warships used to enforce their rule, all of it would utilize the power of Tranquility.
Now armed with the first few fleets of warships, and countless weapons, they set out into the stars, carrying forward the rule of the newly declared Quartz Empire along with them.
While the centuries passed by, and the Quartz Empire grew with its rule seeming more and more absolute, there were those within its ranks that grew worried or even paranoid about the possibility of their sacred Pale Moon disappearing, and with it, the lifeblood of the Quartz Empire as a whole.
Though unfortunately, their concerns fell on deaf ears, and the priests and priestesses would dub these individuals as “Ipsi”, or heretics in their native tongue.
As such, these so-called Ipsi were done away with, whether by exile, or even outright execution, as they carried on claiming entire systems of worlds. However, before they could fully defeat the last remaining rebelling systems, and claim absolute control over the entire galaxy, the Pale Moon would in fact rise from its inky crater lake, before vanishing altogether.
The Lunarian civilization as they knew it, and indeed the Quartz Empire as a whole, would quickly begin collapsing in on itself shortly after, and would be finalized by the apparent death of all their priests and priestesses.
Every piece of technology they possessed, from the machines that sustained the irrigation networks across Lume, to the weapons and warships that comprised their vast military force across the stars, would soon grind to a halt once their source of remaining Tranquility dried up, and as the sands of time overtook the now fallen empire over the next several millennia, their home world would eventually become known as the Looming by the modern galaxy, named so for the towering ruins that remain across its surface.
The Lunarian survivors of this imperial collapse would take on their rumored older, nomadic ways of their forgotten Lumua ancestors, eventually taking on the moniker of Ipsi to honor those who tried warning them all. While many Ipsi Lunarian moths roam the lands, some still pay respects for the empty cities and ruins of their fallen empire.
Very few Lunarians survive today, with most of the survivors remaining on their planet. However, if you ever encounter one, you may be able to ask it about tales of battles long forgotten to all but them.
