Meet Voryssa, and female Barbarian joining my DnDverse series. Here is a bit of background for this ferocious feline female.
Origin & Early Life
Born under a blood-red moon in the volcanic mountains of the Shattered Range, Voryssa is a rare hybrid from a long-forgotten bloodline of manticores who once ruled the skies and preyed upon intruders of the ancient wilds. Her mother, Sarethra, was a winged huntress of a primal manticore pride, while her father, a wandering leonine warrior from the lowland tribes, was a rare paragon of strength and honor. Their union was both scandalous and prophetic—Voryssa was to be the rebirth of a line thought extinct.
Her childhood was brutal. The Shattered Range was no place for the weak, and her pride saw her hybrid nature as both a gift and a curse. She was pushed harder, forced into gladiatorial pits against other cubs, and trained to hunt and kill by the time she could walk. Her scorpion tail’s poison emerged during adolescence, causing a rift among her kin who began to fear her.
The Pride's Fall
When Voryssa was still young, the manticore prides of the Shattered Range were betrayed. Greedy anthro-minotaurs from the Kingdom of Embers struck an alliance with a dragon cult to harvest the pride’s magical venom and bone for forbidden rituals. Her kin were hunted, captured, and dissected. She escaped only by unleashing a primal rage, a state where her wings tore free and her claws became infused with ancestral fury.
Voryssa fled, dragging her broken mother to a cave high above the clouds. Sarethra died from her wounds, gifting Voryssa the emerald pendant she wears to this day—rumored to hold a fragment of her ancestral soul.
Wandering Warrior
Alone and hunted, Voryssa wandered the land as a barbarian mercenary, forging a name with blood and battle. She became known as “The Emberclaw,” a desert legend in the southern wastes, where she hunted sky serpents and tore through warbands with fang, claw, and poisoned tail.
She follows no laws but the instincts of the wild. Though fearsome and aggressive, she has a code: protect the weak, punish slavers, and never forget her lost pride.
Personality
Voryssa is proud, intense, and tactile. She speaks bluntly and shows affection through challenges and shared trials. While many mistake her aggression for cruelty, she’s deeply loyal to those who earn her respect. Her rage stems not from hatred, but pain—a wound still fresh from the betrayal of her people.
