. . . I don't know why, but I have to ask: How about religion?

hmm, are you asking my opinion ?  the comic itself is a followup on a joke in the comic that Star trek science borrows a lot from and is still based on theories largely current right now...that's like us basing our physics off Newton , our medicine on folklore, our chemistry barely out of alchemy with no elements resolved yet, etc...it goes a bit further and claims that many beliefs about origins are wrong and endorses creationism (pulling out "the holy polaroids" as proof  XD)

religion, whose general purpose is to cement a society together, generally lasts till the society ends?  Except in the case of reform religions which can outlast their society by addressing basic human needs.

Are quarks with the same color charge attracted to or repelled from each other?

In my made up science of the future, there are no quarks, merely a field and your good old electron and proton

may I know where you got that from? is there something to go into?
because if I had it laid out for me *that* plain ten years ago that wouldve safed loads of trouble, maybe I can do some damage control ;x

edit: when I read your comment to Vincent it sounds a bit like this simply came from you? so I guess this plain and simple says what it means and means what it says mh?

Luminiferous ether was an actual theory of light in the 1880's-1910s overturned by the electromagnetic theory of light.  It assumed that light was a wave and therefore needed a medium to travel through space.  The ether was this hypothetical medium and they went on to try to explore some its presumed property, such as drag, etc.  Lovecraft was a science fiction as well as horror writer and many of this creations were based on cutting age science of the time.  Thus the Yuggoth actually did fly on the ether and Yogsothoth was depicted as a series of bubbles, these bubbles being how science of the time actually pictured the universe, while Azathoth bore a resemblance to the new big bang theory (which originally came from a cosmic egg) so the idea of a central mass that gods are singing to keep asleep also has a deeper meaning

XD  so just playing around with all those ideas in this comic, plus the running joke mentioned above that star trek science doesnt seem to have advanced really in new ideas since our time.
