As an aside, I notice you're using an Illustrious model but your base image is 512x512 with the highres fix to 1024x1024. Illustrious is SDXL so it's native resolution is actually 1024x1024. Rendering your base image smaller than this, even with the upscale, is more likely to produce "temperamental" results. That's the theory anyway, and what I've observed. Do you observe different?
The TL;DR is that you can get away with generating directly at 1024x1024, and fixing to as large as 2048x2048 before you start getting distortions. If your processing power allows it.

Hey just been going through my comments today. Thanks for the heads up on the resolution stuff. I have been doing much larger images lately, I have a whole lot of stuff I still need to post, just very lazy these days with a promotion at work, not much time left over to dedicate to posting.
