Kinda reminds me of Ollie Canal's Cepn, those that fail to learn how to glide across the Chasm in roost fall to their deaths, at the bottom is strange creatures among the dead that the Cepn don't know about because no one willing goes down there and it is too dark for even them to see.

A similar rite was doubtless performed by a pre-Neanderthal culture. There is an abyss in back of the cave where numerous skeletons and bones were found, and it was these relics that told us of the anatomy of these pre-Neanderthal humans.
