Lapis was taking too long getting ready for school. Reed had promised Vera he'd get Lapis to school on time.
Vera woke up feeling very tired one morning so her boyfriend, Reed, offered to let her sleep in while he took care of Lapis. Reed promised he would make sure Lapis got to school on time. Vera was hesitant to agree, but Reed persuaded her to take a rest for once and let him do the work.
Reed was a lot more patient with Lapis than Vera normally would be. He never tried to rush the girl and let her get ready at her own pace. This turned out to be a terrible idea because Lapis happily took the opportunity to drag out the process of getting ready for school.
Lapis took so long she wound up missing the bus and continued to take her time with brushing her hair and her teeth and everything else she still hadn't done yet. Reed managed to remain patient up until the point he found Lapis still in the bathroom with only a few minutes left until the school bell rang.
Reed immediately jumped to action, grabbing Lapis by the wrist and yanking her out of the bathroom. The two ran right downstairs and through the front door, grabbing Lapis' bag on the way out. Reed took off down the street with Lapis in tow, toothbrush still in her mouth. The poor girl's feet never touched the ground the whole journey, and she wound up losing one of her sandals a few streets back.
Reed didn't stop running for anything. He ignored Lapis' muffled protests with her mouth full of toothpaste. Lapis should be glad Reed packed a lunch for her cuz she hadn't eaten the breakfast he made, too. Reed wasn't going to be taking any excuses when he dropped off Lapis.
Lapis was going to be sitting at her desk before the bell. 2 minutes left with only half a mile to go. They were gonna make it.
