Ben didn't understand what laws he had broken, he didn't even understand their strange alien language.
When the intergalactic authorities came to arrest him, Ben was captured and immediately thrown in a cell.
Ben was visiting an alien planet when the incident occurred. The planet in question was very well-developed with bustling markets and business traveling there from all over the galaxy. The planet was a hot-spot for trading goods and the perfect place for Ben to relax and explore alien cultures.
While walking down a street filled with alien creatures, Ben witnessed various acts of commerce taking place all around him. One creature made out of slime gave another creature made of rock a basket of fruits in exchange for tiny metal cubes. Another creature that looked to be half dog traded some sort of machine with a bipedal cow in return for colourful rocks. Beings that looked to be made of pure energy traded canisters of fuel for more of those tiny metal cubes Ben had seen earlier.
Ben didn't understand anything that he was seeing, but it was still fascinating to watch.
As Ben walked through town, he sipped on his drink he had brought with him to keep himself hydrated. Just when he was about to finish his drink, Ben was stopped by a massive alien monster that spoke a strange language Ben couldn't understand. Startled, Ben reached for his watch, but the alien monster didn't attack. The alien spoke in its weird language again, then held out a hand full of the same tiny metal cubes Ben had seen traded all over the market.
"You want to trade with me? I don't really have anything to give you, though." Ben said, but the monster didn't seem deterred.
Ben thought for a moment. It was possible the alien wanted his watch. Ben considered running away to avoid a confrontation, but then the alien creature used its other hand to point to Ben's drink.
"Ohh! You want my soda! I mean, I was almost done with it. I don't know if you'd still want it like this." Ben said, handing over the drink.
The alien snatched the can away from Ben as soon as it was in reach. The cubes the creature had been holding were dropped into Ben's empty hands. Ben was surprised, but found it amusing to watch this giant, alien monster play with a nearly empty can of soda. Chuckling to himself, Ben turned and walked away with his new collection of cubes.
Returning to the part of the market he had just walked through, Ben spotted a cool looking hover board he wanted to purchase. Walking up to the vender, Ben deposited the cubes he had earned onto the counter and pointed at the hover board. The alien running the stand looked at the cubes and then to the board. The next moment, Ben was walking away with the board under his arms and a big grin on his face. He wasn't even sure if he had over-paid for the board or not. For all he knew, he had enough cubes to purchase everything in the market place! That didn't matter, however, since all Ben wanted was the board.
Ben was ecstatic about his new board and couldn't want to try it out. His moment to do so came quickly, however, as a bunch of rough looking aliens started shouting and pointing in Ben's general direction. Ben considered sticking around to fight them, but figured that he could use this as his excuse to try out his new board and escape the scene without making too much of a fuss.
Placing his board on the ground, Ben hopped on top and instantly zoomed forwards. The aliens that were shouting grew angrier instantly. They gave chase after Ben but were unable to keep up. Just when Ben thought he was in the clear, loud roaring could be heard as vehicles blasting sirens chased after Ben.
These vehicles contained more of those alien monsters, and it was clear they were after Ben. Fortunately, Ben's board allowed him to nimbly dodge between the shoppers in the market place while the clunky space vehicles needed to go around. Ben stayed ahead of those beasts for a good long while before he got cocky and stopped paying attention to where he was going. Ben let out a cheer of victory the same moment his board collided with an alien made completely out of stone. The board exploded and Ben was sent crashing into the body of this beast.
Ben's body slumped to the ground the same moment those alien goons caught up with him.

Turns out, those aliens chasing Ben were intergalactic police. Also, apparently Ben was being placed under arrest due to him being suspected of fraud.
Looking back at the moment when Ben had traded his soda for alien money, Ben realized that he never questioned why this alien would want a partially empty can of pop. Did that alien really need a taste of the syrupy sugar water contained within? Unlikely.
The truth of the matter is, this alien mistook Ben's drink for a super rare form of fuel that sells for a high price on the black market. This alien paid Ben thinking the can contained this fuel. When the alien found out he had been incorrect, he contacted the authorities to hunt down Ben so he could get his money back. Unfortunately, Ben had spent all the alien's money on the hover board that had now been blown to pieces. Oops.
Things were already looking bleak for Ben, but things were made much worse due to his "escape attempt" he had performed earlier that day. Apparently, the intergalactic police did not take kindly to Ben fleeing from them. They also did not appreciate Ben calling them monsters and freaks when he was finally captured. The cops deemed that this human was unruly and needed to be contained properly if they were to carry out procedure uninhibited.
Ben was fitted into a very tight, very restricted latex suit that clung to his body like a second skin. The suit was all one piece, with the sleeves for his arms being made just long enough to be tied around the back of his body. Elastic straps were placed over Ben's folded legs, removing his ability to unbend them. Finally, an orb used to provide nutrients and hydration through a mist that produces no waste was inserted into Ben's mouth. A latex gag was fitted over his face to hold the orb in place.
"MMPHH!! MMGHHHH!!!" Ben screamed in protest, but this only resulted in the police carrying him very aggressively to his holding cell.
Ben was thrown inside the metal box which was quickly sealed by bars of energy covering the entrance. Ben wriggled on the ground, barely able to move in his current situation. He tried calling out to the aliens that had dragged him here, trying to explain that there had been a misunderstanding, but he had ruined their good will with his escape attempt earlier. Ben could barely manage to pull himself up against the cell wall and struggle against his bindings.
Ben was stuck like this until someone came to get him.
Fortunately, Ben has yet to stand trial. The hero is set to stand before an alien judge one decade from now.
He's lucky the judicial system runs so smoothly in this part of the galaxy.
