Harvesting in the fields is hard work for peasant hens, but it is also a very dangerous time, because the sight of plump chickens at work attracts many predators. Very often peasant hens leave the field wriggling in a tight sack which carried over the shoulder by a happy fox, licking his lips in anticipation.
