I play casual vintage and have never played online. I only really play solitaire with MTG now, the local players won't play against vintage and the new format no longer appeals to me.
Great to meet a fellow Magic player though!

I do traditional *REET* linez and digital colorz~! :B This looks cool, but you *oink* notice how the lines are full 100% opacity black and pixelated on the edges. In real life, your graphite is not 100% full opacity black or pixelated *RE-REET* on the edges.
I make a new layer on top of the graphite layer *s-SNORT* and then I set the layer to "overlay" (or similar)~!

I know whatcha mean~! xB I'm the same way, which is why I take a pic with my phone focused on the way the *snort* lineart looks So if I drew it from a perspective, I try to photograph it as I drew it because that's probably how it *oink* looks best I try to use the grid over the *oink* viewfinder view to place the "+" over the points of interest xB *oink* *re-REEEET*
Digitally I just do it different each time depending on *oink* how I think would be easiest. Sometimes it's 100% opacity over the natural paper background, sometimes overlay layers, I try to find the "simplest" way to do it but it depends on what I'm doing, the color and texture of the paper and what I drew it with *snuff*
You just gotta do it a lot a lot a lot all the time and it starts to go quicker if you try to think about *s-SNORT* ways to make efficient.
The fuzzeh bawlz are very cute and cuddly *oink* lookin'~! ~(//U/w/U//)
