Here's the muscle growth art made into a 6-panel comic strip as my part of an art trade between me and kdhrofj, provided with a story below. This is also inspired by Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as the regular process of jaggery making.
Here it was, the Jaggery Factory (also known as "ကျောက်စိမ်းစက်ရုံ"). For few months under the leadership of Mr. Hanga the steampunk robot, it had been making and selling jaggeries to local across Myanmar, yet it had never crossed his mind that no jaggery had ever been sold to further places, let alone urbanized towns and beyond. It had also become public knowledge to said locals that Mr. Hanga's jaggeries contained a special filling, which was widely believed to contain magical powers, perhaps there could more. Except however, these jaggeries were specifically made to turn its consumers into bodybuilder-like warriors.
One day, Mr. Hanga ordered a couple of his employees, including Aaron Wakey the yellow snake, to sell his jaggeries to few cities, such as the country's most populous city of Yangon. Apparently to Mr. Hanga, he found it hard to negotiate with any official from urbanized cities who would instead turn down his offer, fearing that his locally popular jaggeries would jeopardize the monopoly contained in those cities, while not even knowing what his jaggeries actually contained. Behind the backs of those officials, Mr. Hanga had his workers distribute his jaggeries in kiosks, in that way, they would still be able to persuade a few more of those cityfolk, as long as they wouldn't barge into an official. This circumstance was at best in his favor, as no official had yet impose a trade restriction on local jaggeries on a national scale, and not even the city police was informed of this situation.
For few days, a few more stocks were flourishing a little but improving, all coming from urban areas. However, the word came to Mr. Hanga that Aaron back in Yangon had suffered a serious encounter with two criminals who wanted more jaggeries. Fearing for the yellow snake's life, he and his bulky robot guards fled to that city, only to find Aaron sitting alone in a locked hotel room, obviously anxious yet well-fed, with a letter attached to the snake's back, saying that those two criminals were already satisfied and had given Aaron a comfy room to make up for their assault. Aaron couldn't even find a way to communicate with his boss, as the city officials were fixing a couple of telephone and internet lines found cut across Yangon. Those lines were later restored a day later, but Mr. Hanga had realized that this situation was deliberate, as he was able to recognize those two criminals, who not only led the local pirates but also assisted a foreign criminal gang in taking over one of Mr. Hanga's sugarcane farms. This could inflict a reputational damage onto the Jaggery Factory, nevermind requiring a city official to find out what had transpired.
To counter the potential backlash, Mr. Hanga publicized a promotional visit to several guests nationwide, in hopes that a good coverage would overwrite over the loss of his riverside sugarcane farm. Instead of jaggeries however, he distributed few tickets encased in chocolates under several sponsored local brands, something that all city officials were more willing to pass. So far, he had managed to receive seven visitors would come and see his Jaggery Factory: (1) Mazhe, somewhat a giant from Lashio yet suitable enough to prevent unnecessary destruction in his everyday life; (2) Mrs. Ford the New Zealander teacher working in Yangon; (3) Ruben and Mari, a British couple who came to Mandalay as tourists; (4) Duncan, an octopus foreigner who just got arrested in Hpa-an for scaring the public with his strange ability to detach/attach his own head; and (5) Aaron Wakey, a British employee working in the Jaggery Worker, and his lover Sharon Snakey. Aaron was an exception here, because he had been restricted, despite being the factory worker, from entering certain areas of the factory where Mr. Hanga deemed more crucial to the inner circles. Mr. Hanga also hoped to make amends with Aaron through this visit, just for letting the Yangon incident happen at his expense.
On the very day, the seven guests were introduced to Mr. Hanga himself, at the forefront of the Jaggery Front. Starting the tour, he brought them to the first part of the factory, the Sugercane River, where hundreds of harvested sugarcanes would end up crushed and loosened its juice into a river then into the tunnels for the next process. Aaron was already familiar with this place, as he used to work there for few months. Mahze lagged behind, as he took a sip of sugarcane juice out of curiosity, but as his body started twitching, he slipped down into the river. Under one minute would Mahze become bigger than just a tolerably sized giant, he had literally outgrown the factory and his new height had surprising matched the central tower. Clearly because of his humongous size, Mahze was deemed unfit to continue the tour and forced to remain in the now-collapsed area until the workers could develop a way to reduce that size.
Six out of seven guests moved on to the second part, the Pulp Furnace, where the sugarcane juice would start getting filtered and then slowly heated. This got Mrs. Ford very interested, because as a Science teacher, she was eager to not only explain the process behind the jaggery making, but to also critique the quality of the filtered juice and the non-filtered one. However, this left Mr. Hanga slightly embarrassed, as forgot to tell his guests that all the sugarcane he grew were already genetically altered to begin with. Because while the taste varied between the filtered and the unfiltered juices, something else remained the same regardless of any chemical process, and it was the acid-sensitive muscle growth hormones implanted in sugarcane stems. Consequently, Mrs. Ford was gradually but unknowingly turning into yet another bodybuilder, all through tasting the juice through her own bowl, until she noticed her dress getting torned apart. Mr. Hanga assured her that overconsuming the jaggery wouldn't make her overgrow, but she couldn't join the tour being near-naked unless she got appropriately dressed, in which she agreed, promising she would catch up later.
Down to five guests, they walked into the large hut-like structure, named the Okra House. Even Aaron was confused about the inclusion of okra into this process. Mr. Hanga outright explained that the very plant was deemed very crucial, as its pulp served as a natural clarifying agent to remove impurities from the sugarcane juice, which would help preserve the natural flavor and nutrients of the jaggery once made. He elaborated that he couldn't allow using other chemicals other than okra, as they could not only alter the taste and color, but they could also damage the implanted muscle growth hormones. Out of the blue however, Mari displayed an obsessive interest in okra, as it was her favorite vegetable, and it was really up to her husband Ruben to calm her down. Almost every time something like that happened, Mari was able to rebuild her composure and move on, but this time, she had none of it and dragged herself and Ruben down into the central drain, where the now-clarified juice would go down to another process. Despite being soaked and drowning with the said juice, Ruben was able to pull himself and Mari back into the platform, but the couple had transformed into their bodybuilder physique, much to Ruben's shock, but Mari didn't care more than all the okra-stained juice she could drink from in the very room. Realizing such a deliberation, Mr. Hanga requested Ruben to keep Mari still to prevent accidentally clogging the drain.
With the three guests left, they walked back to the regular block, this time it was the Moulding Room. It was where the hot, clarified juice would thicken and cool down before they could get poured into molds (moulds) and then dry on their own. Jaggeries would then be cut down to various sizes and shapes depending on Mr. Handa's decisions, clients and customer's references. Both Sharon and Duncan began to water their mouths the moment they saw the soon-to-be-molded jaggeries for the first time, and they did look delicious. Aaron caught eye on this and quickly held Sharon back, but Duncan went ahead and grabbed the big brick of jaggery. In the room full of conveyor belts and tall storage shelves, Duncan was chowing down on the very brick until he grew so big that his enlarged tentacles pushed down shelves like dominoes, both prematurely breaking the jaggery molds apart and leaving a lot of conveyors malfunctional, and yet the red octopus felt too dazed to even notice it. The disappointed Mr. Hanga ordered his workers to bring Duncan to the factory clinic where he would be treated.
With only Aaron and Sharon joined Mr. Hanga to the fifth and last part, up into the central tower through the elevator, they would be able to see the Main Office by themselves. This was indeed the first time for Aaron, as all workers outside the inner circle were delegated to another office, which was on the ground floor. This was also where the already dried and molded jaggeries would be inspected by the inner circle workers and then packaged in different forms, should it be in cardboard boxes, plastic wrappers, etc. However, Mr. Hanga couldn't contain his own joy on how well-behaved his own worker was as they had been on the tour. Because of this, Mr. Hanga had promoted both Aaron and Sharon as part of his inner circle, and by that, he quickly shoved smaller jaggery pieces in their mouths, turning them into large and muscular snakes, pretty much to their shock and confusion. Furthering their confusion, the snake couple would then be surrounded and congratulated by the rest of other inner-circle workers, who all just happened to be steampunk robots, much like Mr. Handa. The very owner sheepishly admitted that he had been concerned with the current state of this upper level. He so wanted to have a fully flesh-and-blood worker or two to be in the inner circle, because although his fellow robots under him had near-accurate taste quality scanners, good speed (even in running), well-tinkered agility, and high intelligence, they were still vulnerable to physical combat and could not even transform much like his consumers could. Not even his bulky robot guards would do him a favor on the long run. To sort out this imbalance, he approached Aaron, and asked him and Sharon to lead alongside him, not just as his supervisors under him in flesh and blood, but also as his co-leaders. The still confused snake couple asked Mr. Hanga to wait, as they began thinking, in which the robot boss patiently agreed.
Several minutes, all factory workers were ordered to gather up and have the five disqualified visitors brought back to the front yard, where they all would be greeted by Aaron and Sharon. Although not surprised, the five guests were happy to see them as fellow bodybuilders, but Ruben quickly noticed the confident yet evil smirk sported by the snake couple, and asked them what they had in mind. Aaron approached Ruben and then told about his last incident back in Yangon, where he was held hostage by the pirates led by One-Eye Wilson. And having heard about the riverside sugarcane farm taken over by the said pirates, Aaron imposed a fiery speech onto his fellow guests, persuading them to help him and Sharon take back that farm on Mr. Handa's behalf. And by successfully doing so, the Jaggery Factory would be able to sell more jaggeries to more people even beyond their reach, but by turning them into bodybuilders on equal strength, they would be able to maintain security within their own communities and prevent crime altogether. This speech had left the five guests and even Aaron's fellow workers speechless for few seconds, and then they all cheered around him, begging him to lead them. Aaron turned to Sharon to give each other the same smirks, before he would direct towards his first goal as the inner-circle worker, just as Mr. Hanga remained in the Main Office, confidently smiling while swearing revenge on One-Eye Wilson for threatening his factory.
