So I'm looking at her saying no from a different perspective from everyone else it seems. She just lost her lover and in his dying breath he asked she prevent the gods from taking him, she did all this so he can be with her forever.
I don't think she said no because this is a lesson she feels she need to remember or anything like that but rather she is not willing to part with a soul she promised to take care of. Even if it would be placed in something else, I don't think she's willing to give it up.
