"Holding on"

As much as this lizard likes to practice holding his breath on the bottom of a pool, his body always slowly floats back up, and the idea of wearing weights makes him nervous... But, having found a weight he can just hold onto, and having an extra hand on the end of his tail, he can just hold the weight with that! It's pretty much perfect for him!

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: on a nice day in a public pool, there was a lizard with something unique about them, having a hand on their tail, and that came in handy when they were practicing their breath holding at the bottom of a 40 feet deep pool, they used a weight they found at the bottom and held onto it using their tail, closing their eyes and just peacefully floating... meanwhile somebody else came down underwater, a charmeleon... wearing a pair of goggles and swimming down to the bottom of the pool with almost no fear on his face, when they reach the bottom, they happen to notice the lizard down there, he let's out some bubbles and lightly taps on them, just so he's not scaring them, but little did he know, this lizard's favorite pokemon was actually charmeleon

L: The lizard opens his eyes to see who tapped him, and he smiles as he realizes it's a charmeleon. "Hbli! Mm..." He blushes a little at having tried to talk underwater without thinking, and gives them a wave.

S: the charmeleon giggles out some bubbles at their attempt to talk, and he happily waves back at the lizard, he gestured to the surface, asking if he wants to go up so they can talk

L: The lizard nods, and lets go of the weight to start swimming up to the distant surface even though he's still doing fine on breath.

S: the Charmeleon's face is visibly redder then usual just from swimming down this far, but he's not under any real strain as he follows the lizard up to the surface, and eventually both of them surface 2 minutes later with the charmeleon gasping a little for air

L: The lizard calmly exhales as he surfaces. "It's so cool to see a charmeleon, you guys are my favorite kind of Pokemon!"

S: the charmeleon blushes at that, his tail wagging just a little
"Oh really? That's so sweet! Hehe I bet you didn't expect a charmeleon to show up 40 feet underwater huh?"

L: "I sure didn't! And you probably didn't expect to see someone practicing breath holding down there, did you?"

S: "Oh definitely not! I was just seeing if I could swim to the bottom of this 40 feet deep pool and go back up all on one breath, and I guess I can! Hehe! Bet your wondering why a fire type like me is swimming"

L: "Yeah, I never really thought a fire type would do much swimming... So, what's up? Here to relax, or are you challenging yourself like I am?"

S: "Well, I took up swimming to help with my anxiety, I've been really anxious almost all of my life, to the point where it got so bad i needed theapy and my therapist recommended that I try swimming and diving, at first I didn't believe them that it would help, but after trying it out, not only did it help, but I'm pretty good at it... the deeper I dive, the more relaxed I feel rather then scared...today I wanted to do a mixture of relaxation and challenging myself"

L: "Oof, I'm glad you found a way to help with that... We could definitely swim together for a while, I imagine having someone underwater with you would make it even better."

S: "Oh I would love that! My dives have all been solo since none of my friends wanna join me, so having someone down there with me would certainly be great! You seem very nice and I'm happy to have met you, so uhh how long can you hold your breath for?"

L: "My record's about 13 minutes, which I'm pretty proud of. What's yours like?"

S: "13 minutes?? Wow...heh, my record is about 5 minutes, not the greatest but for a fire type it's impressive, I wanna improve on that tho"

L: "That does already seem like it's pretty good for a fire type, yeah. And hey, we might end up both improving through us hanging out!"

S: "I suppose that's possible, guess we should find out"
the charmeleon notices the extra hand in the lizard's tail and looks at it in confusion
"Is that a....hand on the end of your tail there?"

L: "Right, I sometimes forget to tell people about that." The lizard waves with the hand on his tail. "I've had it my whole life, I don't really know why. I don't mind it though, it's helpful to have an extra hand."

S: "That's...interesting, but not in a bad way, I think it's cool" the charmeleon high fives the hand on the lizard's tail and giggles

L: "Yeah, I like it too! It's what I was using to hold onto that weight down there, if you didn't notice while we were there."

S: "Oh, I didn't even know there was a weight down there, that'll come in handy if your trying to stay down and not float up"

L: "I normally float underwater, so yeah, need something to keep myself down. I can just exhale a bunch of air to sink, but I obviously kinda need that."

S: "Huh, that's useful...I remember always struggling to stay down underwater because of how floaty I am, so maybe I should try using that too"

L: "Well, while we're together, I can hold onto you to make sure that doesn't happen, then you can just focus on relaxing."

S: "Hmm, I guess that could work, sure...just don't hold onto me too tight ok? I wanna be able to have some wiggle room, Heh"

L: "Yeah, don't worry, I'll make sure not to hold you too tightly. Plus, you might end up freaking out if I'm holding you tight and you can't get loose when you need to."

S: "Yeah I'll definitely end up freaking out about it, so thank you...guess we should get ready yeah?"

L: "Yep, let's get ourselves ready for this." The lizard starts deeply breathing.

S: the charmeleon starts deeply breathing as well, thankfully knowing how to do that

L: After a little while, the lizard holds his breath and dives back underwater, starting to head back down toward the bottom.

S: the charmeleon holds his breath as well and dives too, he swims towards the bottom as well, pinching his nose shut

L: Once they're back down there, the lizard grabs the weight with his tail hand again, and holds out his arms, ready to hold the charmeleon to help them stay in place.

S: the charmeleon smiles and heads into the lizard's arms, he couldn't help but actually hug them, even tho he didn't have to

L: While he's a little surprised at the hug, the lizard hugs the charmeleon back after a moment, smiling at them.

S: the charmeleon warmly smiles back at the lizard, his tail wagging just a little as he leans into the hug and relax himself, small bubbles escaping him as his face is already a tiny bit red

L: The lizard closes his eyes to better relax, just keeping still just above the bottom with the charmeleon. Little bubbles leave his nostrils, though not very many.

S: the charmeleon closes his eyes as well to try and relax too, grunting just a tiny bit in strain already

L: There's a little bit of a frown from the lizard as he realizes the charmeleon really isn't that good at holding their breath... But, not minding much, he just stays ready to help whenever they need to surface.

S: as time goes on, the charmeleon's face slowly grows more red, eventually the blush covers his whole face, only about 3 minutes in when he grunts a bit louder in strain, whining just a bit as he tries to release some bubbles to help with the burn of his lungs

L: Hearing the charmeleon's whining, the lizard starts watching them, making sure they don't push themselves too far.

S: the charmeleon's eyes open with fear clearly written on them, we are past the 5 minute mark and now the charmeleon's face is slowly turning blue, it seems he's not used to being so low on breath

L: The lizard looks at the charmeleon with a bit of worry as he starts to blush some himself. He keeps holding onto them for now, ready to let go whenever they decide to start going back up.

S: as much as the charmeleon wants to keep going and stay down here with the lizard, he just couldn't keep his breath in ant longer, he signals for them to let go and swim up to the surface with him

L: With a nod, the lizard lets go of the charmeleon and the weight, starting to swim back to the surface with the charmeleon.

S: after a brief swim back up, they surface and the charmeleon gasps heavily for air
"T-told you, I suck at breath holding!"

L: The lizard lightly gasps. "That did feel like about 5 minutes... But hey, you don't have to be all that good at holding your breath to have fun underwater, right?"

S: "I-I mean I guess not, but I wasn't really having any fun... I was too focused on holding my breath, I really need to get better at it..."

L: "Maybe if you could find some way to distract yourself from your need to breathe? That always helps me some."

S: "How am I gonna do that?? All I'm thinking about is my need to breathe! It's almost impossible to ignore!"

L: "You could try to think about something you like? Or, like, what you're planning on doing tomorrow or something? Other than that, it's hard to really say..."

S: "Hmm, I don't got anything planned for tomorrow, I mean I like swimming, I really do... and I know being underwater tends to calm down somebody rather quickly, but I just don't see the appeal in it"

L: "Don't really know what to tell you then... Maybe if we're not as deep down you'll be able to enjoy yourself more? We could move over to the shallow end for a little while."

S: "No, I'm fine with the 40 feet that we've been doing, I just need to think happy thoughts, that's all..."

L: "Alright, then let's just try again. Maybe it'll go better this time, who knows?" The lizard starts getting ready again.

S: "Maybe" the charmeleon starts to get ready again as well, hoping I'll go much better this time around

L: After a little while, the lizard dives again, heading back toward the weight that's still on the bottom.

S: the charmeleon holds his breath again and dives as well, lightly kicking his legs down to the bottom as well as he pinches his nose shut again

L: Soon once again holding the weight with his tail hand, the lizard holds out his other hands to the charmeleon.

S: the charmeleon swims over and hugs the lizard again to get himself back in their arms, this time not moving an inch as he tries to think happy thoughts

L: The lizard hugs them back, this time petting them a little in the hope it'll help them out.

S: the petting does seem to help the charmeleon relax further, he closes his eyes, this time his bubbles are a lot less common then last time, determined to be as relaxed as possible

L: Smiling as he notices the improvement, the lizard closes his eyes as well while continuing the petting, though he's just doing as well as he was last time.

S: the charmeleon keeps his arms around the lizard in a hug, his tail swaying gently behind him in contentment, he's finally able to relax fully as the minutes tick by, a total of 4 minutes already passing with no blush on the charmeleon's face this time

L: The lizard's still doing just fine right now as well, still perfectly calm and holding the charmeleon. He hasn't even had any little bubbles leave him in a bit.

S: little bubbles leave the charmeleon's mouth from time to time, but he's still calm for the moment, we slowly drift to 8 minutes now, and the charmeleon still isn't blushing! Well, maybe a small hint of a blush, but it's barely noticeable

L: It's more clear that the lizard's blushing, though, and while he does occasionally let out little grunts, he's still calm and relaxed, continuing to pet the charmeleon.

S: the charmeleon hears the grunts from the lizard, he has no idea how much time has passed, but he remains calm, even as we hit double digits, 11 minutes now as the charmeleon's blush slowly spreads on his face

L: The lizard tries to continue to stay calm, but it's getting harder to do now, as his face is just about fully red now. His chest is starting to heave, and his grunting is getting more obvious, but he still stays where he is.

S: the charmeleon's face is fully red as well, his own grunts growing louder and obvious too...eventually he opens his eyes at the 15 minute mark, letting out a lot of bubbles as he realizes how low on breath he is, he whimpers...glancing at the distant surface

L: When he hears that whimper, the lizard opens his eyes to check on the charmeleon like last time. "Mm?" He gestures for the surface, asking if they want to go back up. His face is fully red as well at this point.

S: not used to being so low on breath, the charmeleon nods eagerly, he wants to surface for air

L: The lizard lets go of the charmeleon and the weight again to start the swim back up, as bubbles trickle from his nostrils.

S: the charmeleon swims back up as well with bubbles trickling from him too, and soon 16 and half minutes underwater, they both surface and gasp for breath, with the charmeleon gasping a bit heavily for it
"Hah...hah...hah...that definitely felt longer then last time"

L: "I-it definitely did... Man, I wish I knew how long that was... Th-think it might've been a record for both of us!"

S: "I wish I knew too, but that was crazy! I never felt so calm before! But I think after that...I'm done with being submerged for a while..."

L: "I think I'm gonna have a break too, I've done enough for now. Glad I could help you find a way to hold your breath a lot longer!"

S: "Yeah thanks a lot! Your the best!" after hugging the lizard he climbs out of the pool, sitting down on the edge of it and keeping his feet in the water

L: "I'll have to go get that weight, so give me a minute." The lizard dives back down, grabs the weight with his tail hand one more time, then surfaces with it. Though his swimming is notably slower, he gets to the pool's edge without much issue.

S: "Oh I didn't know that weight was yours, I thought that was part of the pool, heh"

L: "Yep, brought it from home." The lizard gets the weight onto the pool floor, then climbs up to rest on the edge himself. "Got a little tired of most pools not having weights, so I usually just bring one."

S: "Ah, I see...very nice! Speaking of home, I should get going back home, I promised my parents I wouldn't be out for too long, it was awesome meeting you!"

L: "Alright, fair enough. It was cool to meet you too, I hope we meet up again sometime!"

S: "Me too! And I'm glad I could be your favorite pokemon! It warms my heart! Catch you later!" after giving the lizard one more hug he salutes him and runs off back home, so happy he was able to improve his breath hold time
