If I had a dollar for every pickelhaube portrait I've done, I would have 3$... which is not a lot but it's interesting that people are interested in this specific look. This is probably one of the best portraits I've ever done since I started my furry art journey! Switching up my brushes and trying to achieve a more traditional look has certainly yielded some results I'm satisfied with. But the journey has only just begun! It's probably because it's a unique and distinctive design with very few similiar contemporaries, if any. Not to mention the pickelhaube definitively evokes a particular stretch of history!

The 19th Century was definitely an era where looks on the battlefield were considered! Take Napoleon's grenadiers with their bearskins for example, it was intended to make the men look larger and thus intimidating! Even the British line infantry had hats with tall fronts for the same purpose before they copied the bearskins.
