Part 1 In an unnamed and strange costume shop, a young girl named Christy was desperately looking for a costume for a Halloween party tomorrow with her friends. She knew that she shouldn't have left it to the last minute, but all last week she had a lot of work to do, studying for school and preparing the premises for the party. Christy had searched other costume shops earlier in the day, either they were sold out, they didn't have what she wanted, or they had it but were beyond her financial means. She knew this shop was her last chance to find a decent costume for the party.
She looked at the rack of costumes she was in front of. There were several possibilities. One looked like a hybrid of a zombie and a vampire. Another had the classic shape of a typical old witch, as people usually imagine her, with sparse gray hair, a long, downturned nose, and a pointed hat on her head. Others had a more modern, futuristic design. Some were more practical than others, but there was nothing she wanted.
Christy decided to wander the aisles of the store. Suddenly, something caught her eye... She didn't know what it was, because it was just a flash that she caught out of the corner of her eye. Christy returned to the place where she thought the flash came from. What she found there was an unusual costume that caught her attention. It had the form of an anthro eevee, made of latex and rubber.
Christy didn't want to admit it, but since she was little, when the first series started airing on television, she liked those little strange characters. She especially liked eevee and its ability to evolve initially into three and later up to eight different forms.
Christy picked up the costume and walked over to the cash register. At the front behind the counter was an elderly man with graying hair, dressed in a sleeveless knitted green turtleneck with a red bow tie casually tied around his neck, who was reading some rather thick bound book.
The salesman barely glanced up from the book he was reading at the costume in her hands and muttered in a low, husky voice, "Fifteen dollars." This surprised Christy, because she had expected the price to be much higher. She was glad for it, because she only had twenty-five dollars and some change with her. And Christy was also aware that she needed to buy something too, for an early dinner. And so the price for the costume pleasantly surprised her.
This is the first part of the story I mentioned in the diary, which was originally scheduled for Halloween 2023 and is currently still with an ending written out.
