I occasionally have the opportunity to watch tutorials in various places (generally geared towards beginners), and as an improvised artist who taught himself I felt compelled to do this. I don't doubt the good will of those who make the tutorials, but I can't help but feel that many recommendations can limit the artistic potential of those who are just starting out in drawing. This is just a small observation of what I believe to be a somewhat restrictive practice that exists in a good part of the furry community, probably inherited from standardized manga drawing.
I don't mean to disparage anyone's artistic style (as these styles tend to be very nice and expressive), I just want to invite people to diversify and grow in their own styles.
Would you say an artist can use the same base but have features (such as muzzles, ears, etc) be different enough that it stylistically can be seen as differentiation among species? Or does it have to be fundamentally different from the ground up?

Artists can work in his art the way he/she will comfortable. I just trying to point that stuck to standardized way of drawing (faces or anything in general) can limit your artistic grown. There is not a "have to be" here (each artist decide about what style to aim for), it's more a "you can aim to keep learning" although you decided to go back to what makes you feel comfortable you will always have learned something to apply in your drawings.

Aye. I suppose being experimental will show what works and what doesn't over time. I'll have to think on it going forward with future projects. Thank you Anhes <3

Still have so much to work on. One of which is lack of motivation/muse. Another one is that, despise each artist is different, I still kinda looking for a mentor/teacher/tutor.

I've said it all my life in the furry fandom: all animals are dog to most artists. Template 2 is telling of this lol New artists need to understand one of the draws to being a furry is the variety in character's designs. Your example animals from template 1 can be further made more unique by tweaking the physical attributes to pertain to different species and sub-species of the same animal, whereas with template 2 you're mostly just calling a palate swap a different animal. It's like taking a Ford truck, painting it red and putting a Ferrari emblem on it can calling it a Ferrari truck.

Some people find the level of difficulty they wanna stop at, and I guess they also feel like they wanna tell others how they got there there may be types of people out there who're gonna put it out as 'The Only Way' to suit their wants, I guess it sucks that people tryina be better artists aren't often given the information that they DON'T have to stop there, that they can decide where to go how they want to see their work

I cannot tell you how much this is helpful to me right now. I just restarted my art journey in hopes that I can see my ideas to fruition, and I have been completely stuck on heads for a while now. (I'm practicing other anatomy as well, but the heads are tripping me up) I've also had a hard time seeing my drawing of shapes as 3d but I may notice how to improve that as well now. So, thank you so much! <3
