Pearl has always had a fascination for big bellies, and she thinks that her friend Marina would look good with one. So, she uses her S-Blast to fill Marina up with ink. Unable to do anything, Marina chugs the ink, causing her belly to turn magenta.

Yay! My first Splatoon fanart! This pic took quite a while to get done. At first, I wanted an Inkling Boy to fill Marina up, but then quickly said no to that because he's a kid/teen. So I chose Pearl instead, who I know is in her twenties.

After I drew Marina and Pearl, I then had trouble coming up with a background. At first, I wanted to draw them in a forest, but the idea seemed too generic and boring. Plus, I had already drawn pics with trees in the background, e.g.

Lemon and Ronde: Part 1 and

Blossom Baby Bump . Those pics have only one tree, instead of a whole forest of them. But in my mind, they still seemed to similar to this pic...for some reason. I guess I just didn't want trees to be in my drawings too often, especially if I was drawing said trees the same way over and over again.

In addition, the forest idea didn't vibe with me because it had nothing to do with Splatoon's scenery. When I think of Splatoon, I think of cool cities like Inkopolis, not forests like The Lost Woods from Zelda. So instead of a forest setting, I went for Inkopolis itself.

Unfortunately, I ran into another issue right away. I hadn't drawn the picture with a specific background in mind; it was only an afterthought. So, I didn't have any space to draw Inkopolis, or even a small, recognizable part of it. This helped me learn that if I want my art to have a good background, I should already have the right bg so the whole picture is cohesive.

So, since Inkopolis wasn't going to work, I just went with a seafoam green bg with stripes and a grey floor. I think the green goes well with Marina's color scheme, and it's a bg color I haven't used a lot in my past art.

I have a small issue with the scenario though: I originally thought that Pearl using a weapon on Marina seemed too violent, but I then considered the fact that it's a fictional, cartoony rifle that shoots colorful ink, so it's probably fine. That, and Marina being filled up with ink via a Splatoon weapon seemed really unique for an expansion scenario. I'm surprised that it hasn't been done before by other artists (at least not to my knowledge.)

Also, Pearl is a bit on the short side canonically. But I had to make her a little taller so the Blaster could be level with Marina's face.

I'm pretty sure that canonically, S-Blasters don't shoot continuously in a straight line, but I don't have to be completely accurate to the games, especially if it's just for an expansion scenario.

Actually, when I was on the Splatoon Wiki, I learned that the S-Blaster is part of a weapon set called Blasters, and they can shoot ink that explodes. That gave me the idea of drawing Marina ingesting some ink that explodes, causing her belly to greatly expand from the blast. So, I plan to draw that too someday
