He should have two slim tails and red stripes on his hood which connect at the back.
Howler was born in Tikal's era. He was cast out of his wolf pack over his two tails, and the rejection caused him to develop a strong hatred of other sentient beings. He sought power to attain his revenge, hoping to capture Shadow Chaos and harness the creature's rage. He posed as a hero to get the echidnas' help in tracking Shadow Chaos down, but when his dark nature was exposed, he was soon turned to stone.
The Doomsayer, travelling through time, restored Howler from his petrified state and gave him the Chaos Crown, which would give him eternal life. Becoming the Darkseeker, Howler worked from the shadows to collect the Chaos Relics and put a convoluted plan in motion to wipe out all life except for himself. This involved taking over the jackal's Covenant of Despair, turning it into an anti-human organization. He took advantage of the loneliness and pain of countless mobians, including Fera and Violet, stoking war between humans and mobians while building a doomsday device. Ultimately, Howler was defeated by the combined efforts of Knuckles and Punchy, losing the Chaos Crown and aging centuries in mere moments, resulting in his death.
...so, that was an abridged version of GeneX - Knuckles the Echidna. ^^;
Fun fact; his tails are too slim to use the Chaos Tailbands properly.
