I love Porter Robinson. I think his music resonates with a lot of people and its part of why he defines a genre of music. Most days for me are an uphill battle; it can be difficult to juggle the struggles of daily life, to endure and endure through the pain to get to the next good moment. I excel at masking it, at hiding the demons that reside inside. And when I am alone, I stare out at the bright world from my dark room, wondering if I am good enough to continue on.

Certainly while I don't have the skills of an artist, I understand the struggle of trying to make something I can be proud of. Working through the requests I received, it has been difficult to tune and edit and generate something that is worthy of sharing. And every now and then I need to remind myself that that criticism is only a voice that I made up myself.

We all have these avatars that we give to our critical inner voices – we might imagine a scornful parent telling us we’ll fail, or a critic telling us our work comes up short, or a society telling us that we aren’t good enough – it’s about recognizing that most of this criticism is self-inflicted. For years, I was imagining the worst thing a critic might say about my music and looking at my own work as negatively as possible as a way to protect myself from criticism, but it never once served me. -PRob
