You know, I didn't plan for this to resemble the earlier conversation with the zombies regarding how the infection had rewritten their brains, but it really does fit.

Hmmm so they are aware of the station as a numbers loss but did the lifeboats get the other uninfected crew home? And yes while a mirror conversation the ramifications are slightly different. Also do rules of salvage apply since John is the highest ranking crew member and the only one on the station if the company abandons the station and or deems it as salvage dosent that make John both owner and highest ranking crew member? Wouldn't that allow him total free leeway to do as he pleases to reprogram or remove ai restrictions to more suit his needs and or wishes?

So that first one is a question that'll get answered down the way.

But for the second part, John's contract kind of sucks big time, employees of the company are not legally allowed to claim salvage for themselves and only for the company. What's more any use they make of the salvage is subject to review and audit afterwards. So if say, his ship crashed and he salvaged parts to build an antenna or escape vessel, then he'd have to get an audit later by the company to decide if that was a worthwhile use of the resources and requiring him to pay the company for any difference they find.
