Lucky the cat climbed the long stairway to the top of the Mysterious Tower. With Whisk the divine accompanying him, they soon arrived at the chamber of Master Yen Sid, the sorcerer who acted as a guide to all Keyblade wielders. Lucky found himself standing up straighter as a sign of respect. "Master Yen Sid! I'm back! ...What's going on?" he asked. The sorcerer appeared troubled as he sat at his desk. "As you informed me, it does appear that your friend Copter's recent adventure led to the appearance of several new worlds... And with new worlds come countless new hearts. I am afraid dark forces are already moving to take advantage... All while the guardians of light are toiling to bring Sora back to our world..." he said, stroking his beard, "Well, there is Roxas, but he's been put in charge of training young Copter in the use of his new Keyblade. Thus, Lucky, it falls to you to safeguard the worlds from this threat." he said, "You may consider this your exam...for the Mark of Mastery." This meant that if Lucky succeeded in this mission, he might be considered a true Keyblade Master. He smiled at the possibility. "No worries! Let's go, Whisk!" he said a bit hastily. "Do you not require details?" Yen Sid asked with a soft smile. "Maaaaybe we oughta slow down." Whisk chuckled. So, the pair turned back to the sorcerer to hear him out. With a wave of his hand, he created an image of the Paradox Prism on his desk. "The new worlds were contained within this mystic prism. However, due to Copter's actions...it shattered." The image of the prism shattered as well, the countless pieces spreading across a magic map of the worlds. "Not only must you seal the keyholes of these worlds, but you must seek out the pieces of this prism. Were they to fall into dark hands, the consequences may be...unpredictable." he explained vaguely. "Hey, on this map... Some of the shards...?" Whisk murmured. "Astute of you to notice. Some shards may have landed on worlds that already existed. But don't fret. Your heart, and the Keyblade should guide you. Go forth, Lucky!" Yen Sid commanded. Lucky nodded. "Back in no time!" he said cheerfully. As the felines exited, Yen Sid gave a sigh. "May your hearts be your guiding key..." he whispered.
Copter held his keyblade tightly. A black key, the teeth resembling his own two tails. "If I gotta use this key to get back to Gemini, I'll beat up anyone I have to with it!" he shouted, "...even you, if necessary!" he added. Standing across from him in the dusty foyer of the old Twilight Town mansion was a blonde boy wearing white and black clothes, holding his own keyblade. "Ha! Keep dreamin! I've got well over a year's experience on you!" the boy taunted. "Not really filling me with confidence in my trainer, Roxas..." Copter sighed, charging at the boy who was training him, their keys clashing in that shabby room. Roxas was quickly gaining an advantage in their clash, so Copter spun his tails, aiming to get the drop on him from the air! Roxas leapt up after him, and they exchanged blows from their keys again before Roxas was drawn back down by the force of gravity. "How 'bout this?? Chaos Whirlwind!!" Copter shouted. "Aeroga!!" Roxas yelled back! Their wind-based techniques clashed, whipping up a whirlwind that blew both of them across the room! Using what speed he had, Copter closed the gap quickly, but Roxas was surrounded by pillars of light, and with direction from his hands, those pillars blasted into Copter, knocking the fox onto his back! "Oop... I might've overdone it..." Roxas chuckled, approaching Copter to check on him. The fox pointed his keyblade at him. "No way I'll surrender!" he warned with a cocky smirk. Roxas chuckled and pointed his keyblade back. "Well, just 'cause I'm training you, don't expect any mercy! You're about to cry Uncle!" he said. Their keys clashed again, and it wasn't long before Copter's went flying and Roxas got on top of him, holding him pinned. "Give up yet?" he teased. "Nope!" Copter grunted. Roxas shrugged. "You asked for it!"
The two boys didn't notice a corridor of darkness appear in the room. Out stepped Fera the wolf, dressed in an open leather jacket with a red shirt underneath, and tight black pants. Seeing Copter on the ground, she sent a jolt of dark lightning into Roxas, knocking him off Copter! "Beat by a human? Seriously??" she growled before Roxas leapt at her in retaliation, about to swing his blade into her. "Hold up!!" Copter shouted, summoning his keyblade back into his hand quickly to block Roxas. "I know her... What the heck are you doing here, Fera?!" he shouted. "How's that for gratitude? Take that tone with me and I'll leave you here!" the wolf warned. "Uhhh, guys?" Roxas murmured, pointing at the open dark corridor. Heartless were swarming into the mansion from inside it. "Close the portal, Fera!!" Copter snapped, turning his keyblade on the Shadows along with Roxas. "Follow me, will they? I'll squash those beasts!" Fera growled. As the trio were fighting, the front door of the mansion opened and Lucky peered inside. "Gah! Heartless?! C'mon, Whisk!" he shouted, joining the fight along with the others. Fera quickly discovered that her dark powers were much less effective than keyblades, so she hurried to the portal and closed it to stop the heartless from pouring in. With that accomplished, a few Shadows were an easy matter for Roxas and Lucky to deal with, especially with Copter and Whisk there to help. "Alright... Now who's this?" Roxas questioned, looking at the wolf. "I'm Fera... And I came to find Copter. My dark power appeared to be the only escape from our world..." she stated. Copter frowned. "Well, we can't go back that way. Don't want those creatures in our world...again." he murmured, recalling that Fera had summoned them before, intentionally or not, at Punchy's wedding. Fera scoffed. "Alright... what are they?" she asked. Explanations were in order...
Lucky did his best to explain the heartless as well as the situation with the newly created worlds. "Hmm... Maybe I can help seal those keyholes..." Roxas murmured, "Then again, Master Yen Sid wanted me to stick around... With Sora missing and Riku gone to find him, someone's gotta keep an eye on the worlds we know..." he sighed. Copter crossed his arms. "Well, I guess the pieces of that dumb prism might hold the key to getting back to our world... since we can't exactly go the way Fera came again. But what do we do with Fera?" he questioned. "I'm right here, fox..." the wolf grumbled. "It must be fate that she's here!" Whisk declared. "Huh? Why?" Lucky asked her. Whisk scratched her head awkwardly. "Well... My true memories did show her to me that time, sooo..." Lucky gave a sigh. "That doesn't mean anything..." he mumbled. Fera shrugged. "Whatever, I might as well help you. Maybe my darkness can control those heartless... And maybe I'll find Illusi out there somewhere." she stated. "Me-yow!! No, don't try to control the heartless, that'll actually be pretty bad!" Lucky warned. "He's right." Roxas added, "Their darkness will corrupt you, instead. Just let us keyblade wielders deal with them!" he suggested. At any rate, it was essentially decided that they all would be working together. There was a brief awkward silence as everyone stared at Fera a bit, waiting to see her response to being told not to wield darkness. "So, then..." the wolf murmured, "Any reason we're hanging around this dump? How about figuring out how we're going to travel between different worlds??" she grumbled. "Ah, yeah! Let's head to the rendezvous point! The Galestrom should be back soon!" Lucky said excitedly. Their pilot had gone to make a stop while Lucky spoke with Master Yen Sid...
A whitish fox wearing a green tunic groaned as he awoke in a large, white chamber. The fox, named 1BIT, sat up and rubbed his head. "Huh? Where am I... Oh, no! Byte Space blew up! A-am I...dead?" he said in a squeaky voice. "You might've been, buuuuut I brought you here instead!" this voice was above him, so 1BIT glanced up. There was a hooded figure sitting atop a VERY high seat. This was the audience chamber for Organization XIII, within the Castle that Never Was, and the owner of the voice was sitting in Xemnas' former seat. Two more hooded figures were seated to his left and right. 1BIT was about to say something, but he was startled by a voice behind him. "Why'd you bring us here!?" With an "Eep," 1BIT turned to see...Tails? No, though he looked similar, he wore a black hoodie and had seven mechanical tails. This was Nine. Or...WAS it the BIT Squad Tails? He HAD been transforming lately. The figure seated on Xemnas' chair removed his hood in a casual manner, revealing a grinning red fox with piercing golden eyes. "What, no thank you? I'm hurt...come to think of it, none of you ever gave me a thank you..." he said, glancing at the silent figures seated beside him, "Well, whatever! You might say I brought you here to steer your destinies on the right path. Of course, if your worlds are gone, maybe fate was planning for you to go poof, too, but no need to get too philosophical here..." the fox said, his legs dangling playfully over the edge of the seat while he looked down on the other foxes. 1BIT whimpered softly. "Are you-" Nine interrupted him, "What do you mean my world is gone!?" he shouted. "Vanished? Poofed? I think I was pretty clear. Oh, well. This was fun! Doubtweaver, Dreamcaster, guide our new besties! I know you have questions, don't worry, answers come in their due time. Hopefully that time is in the future because we are DONE with going to the past!" he said in his mischievous, playful way. The other hooded figures leapt down, each approaching one of the foxes. "Wait, is he a BIT-copy? Where's 2BIT? Heeey!!" 1BIT shouted as he was pushed into a corridor of darkness. Nine was guided a bit more gently. "Multiple worlds...are gone?" he murmured before following the hooded person.
The rendezvous point for the Galestrom was in front of the train station. The ship pulled up to the ledge across from the station while Lucky, Whisk, Copter and Fera gathered there. Roxas had gone to report the latest to Yen Sid. A second ship also pulled up, a red and black Gummi ship. "Oh, hey, the Maverik!" Whisk exclaimed. "Do we know both of these ships?" Copter murmured. Winston was there as the side door of the Galestrom opened, and he waved only for a certain fox to jump over his head. "Yeaaah! Gang's back together!" cried Miles as he hugged Lucky and Whisk, the three joining hands and sharing a laugh. "...Tails??" Copter muttered, noticing a shield strapped to Miles' back, painted to look like a bumper from Casino Night Zone. Travis stepped out of the Maverik, walking up to Fera. "Hello, there, miss. I was informed that a new keyblade wielder needed a ride." he stated. "That's me!" Copter said, "And who the heck are you?" Lucky glanced their way. "Hey, Travis! Where's Gator?" he questioned. "Haven't seen him in years." Travis sighed. Miles was showing Whisk his new shield, which had a communications screen on the back. "Nicole, how are things?" Miles asked. The lynx appeared onscreen. "You're coming in loud and clear, sweet Miles." she said, making the fox blush, "Cool. That ProwerPhone I got from you guys' world was sure something... Though I guess I'm supposed to invent it in the future? Feels like a paradox..." he said with a chuckle. "Hey, can you call our world with that thing?" Copter asked. He and Fera watched as Miles attempted in vain to get a signal through. "Weird interference... Sorry..." Fera shuddered and turned as a corridor of darkness was opening. "Look out...someone's coming!" she warned.
1BIT fell out of the corridor, landing flat on his face. "You're mean!" he groaned as the hooded being stepped out behind him. Fera glared at the mystery person. "And who are you?" she growled. The hooded one stepped around the area, until the entire group was in front of him. "Embarking on a journey, are you? Ah, but I wonder if you are truly ready for the trials ahead..." he questioned. Lucky stepped forward cautiously with his keyblade in hand. "Are you here to stop us?" he asked. "I am merely here to shine a light on your doubts... I am the Doubtweaver." he told them. Fera growled. "We have no time for any games!" she shouted. "Huh? That's my line..." Copter murmured. The Doubtweaver looked at Fera and scoffed. "Why are you here? Are you truly invested in this quest... Or are you desperately searching for some illusion of love and friendship?" he asked, "Can any of you truly trust one another? I wonder..." he mused. 1BIT stood up and dusted himself off. "Excuse me, can I-" the white fox was interrupted by Miles. "Why would we listen to some guy who calls himself the Doubtweaver? C'mon, let's get going, guys!" he said. The Doubtweaver chuckled. "Suppressing your doubts only shows that you are afraid of them. But if words don't interest you, perhaps a test..." he said, snapping his fingers. A dark mist filled the area, and out of the mist, a massive heartless began to emerge! It was a Behemoth, a rarely seen giant heartless, and it roared as it stomped between the assembled heroes and the ships! The Doubtweaver vanished through the corridor of darkness again, leaving the teams to face the beast! Copter summoned his keyblade and approached with Lucky. "Another day, another jerk in a hood..." the fox groaned. "And another heartless to take out!" Lucky cried.
The Behemoth charged, and immediately Whisk and Fera warped out of the way while Miles raised his shield and the two keyblade wielders leapt to strike at the beast! They were knocked aside, with Lucky landing on his feet while Copter stumbled to the floor next to 1BIT. "That won't work!" the white fox stammered. Miles was actually scanning the heartless with his shield, a display appearing on the screen on the back. "Its weak point is the horn on its head! We need to get up there...yaaah!!" The Behemoth gave a roar, and bolts of energy erupted around it, zapping Miles and injuring him. Whisk quickly flew over and snatched him into her arms, leaving Copter as the closest person to the Behemoth. He climbed to his feet and shook his head, gasping to see the beast suddenly lunging at him! 1BIT jumped in front of him, holding up a shield of his own. "I'll use my parry skills!" he cried, only to get thrown right over Copter's head. "Nooooo!" he wailed. Watching this, Fera growled and struck at the Behemoth with dark lightning, catching its attention. "Obey me, beast...or be destroyed!" she snarled. The Behemoth started charging a huge ball of energy above its head. "Very well... Take this!!" Fera fired a beam of darkness at the monster, but it seemingly wasn't doing anything to it, other than providing a distraction. Lucky, Miles and Whisk ran up the heartless' back, trying to reach its horn! With a roar, the Behemoth reared up, launching its attack while Whisk flapped her wings and grabbed Lucky and Miles to keep them from being thrown off! Copter, Fera and 1BIT had to defend against a rain of energy spheres while the beast prepared to lunge again. "That horn!" Miles shouted. "Meeee-yoooooow!!" Lucky cried, hitting the weak spot with a strong slash!
The Behemoth vanished, a heart floating away after having been freed. "-yoooooooow!!" Lucky didn't land on his feet this time, tumbling facedown to the ground where the Behemoth stood while Whisk and Miles landed more gracefully beside him thanks to their flight abilities. "Their group's come pretty far." Travis said, having observed everything from the sidelines, "You three need work..." he added, glancing at Copter, Fera and 1BIT. "What do you want from me? I don't have my sword..." 1BIT sighed. Copter patted him on the back. "Well, you tried. And anyone who tries to save my tails can't be a bad dude, no matter who brought ya." he reasoned. Lucky smiled as he approached Copter along with Whisk and Miles. "Two ships, two teams of three! I guess we should split up!" he stated. "Teams of... Hey, wait, I have to find 2BIT!" 1BIT stammered. "We're all looking to find someone..." Fera sighed, "So I suppose we have enough in common to form a team, for now." she said. "Greeeeeat..." Copter grumbled, thinking of having to travel with Fera. Lucky reached out his hand, and Whisk and Miles joined him, placing their hands over his. "C'mon, let's do the thing!" Whisk smiled. Copter hesitated, and then added his hand. "Let's find those prism shards and open the way home!" he said. 1BIT added his hand next. "For the glory of BIT Squad...or something!" he smiled. The five of them glanced at Fera, and she sighed before adding her hand. "Don't expect me to join any group hugs..." she murmured. Travis and Winston stood just outside the circle. "Guess we're driving, kupo." Winston murmured. With that, the six hands were thrown up, and half the group cheered. "We'll meet again soon! Promise!" Lucky smiled. "Yeah, yeah, let's get this show on the road..." Copter chuckled.
Copter found himself seated between Fera and 1BIT aboard the Maverik while Travis prepped for launch. It was a smaller ship than the Galestrom, and was a little cramped. "Is this gonna be a long flight? Is there a bathroom?" 1BIT asked. "I can't believe I let Gemini talk me into coming out here..." Fera grumbled. "Move, you two! You're sitting on my tails!" Copter complained. Teamwork might not come so easily to the three of them, but it was time to go. "We'll need your keyblade." Travis stated, "Let it guide us..." Copter tilted his head and summoned his keyblade, and quickly the tip of the blade began to glow. "Well... okay..." he murmured. With preparations complete, the two ships disembarked, flying up into the sky away from Twilight Town. The Doubtweaver watched them from a high ledge of the station tower, a place one would normally expect to find Roxas enjoying ice cream. He removed his hood since no one could see him. The Doubtweaver sighed as the setting sun shone its orange light on his gray wolf face, his red eyes looking up at the Maverik specifically. "I suppose destiny really is never left to chance..." he said, raising a hand to shield his eyes from the sun's light. "He could have told me I'd be seeing her here, though..." he mumbled, a curious smile crossing his lips, "What doubts are you carrying, my daughter? And how have you fared without your father..." His canine tail poked out from under his robe, and the wolf turned away, opening a corridor of darkness. "I'll see you soon, my Fera. Try not to die until then..." he grunted, stepping through the corridor as a new adventure was dawning.
To be continued...
