As of November 8, 1942, the entire world is in the throes of the largest war in saurian and draconic history, easily dwarfing even the Great War in size, scope, and sheer destruction. The machinations of the ComIntern nations, of Sergei Kirov's Russia, Jironi Roquefort's France, Gerardo Lopez's California, Dolores Ibarurri's Republican Spain, and Vladislav Pochinsky's Vostokia, has resulted in them waging war on the democratic and monarchist nations of the Entente and the newborn Warschauischesbund. The People's War, their alliance dubs it, has brought devastation to a great swathe of Europe, western North America, and central Antarctica and the Communists occupy large portions of enemy territory (with the notable exceptions of California and Vostokia). France occupies all of Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as the majority of Alsace-Lorraine, and they continue to make probing attacks into Germany and the Netherlands; the latter is only prevented from being overrun thanks to the presence of British, Canadian, and Belgian troops and to German economic support. The RSFSR has launched a massive offensive into Eastern Europe, occupying Livonia, Estonia, and Belarus with ease, and occupy much of Ukraine and Poland-Lithuania, with Soviet troops currently surrounding Königsberg and attacking towards Poznan, Lodz, Gdansk, Thorn, and Breslau, the defending Allied armies eager to throw the Bolshevik invaders back. Encouraged by Communard France, Republican Spain has invaded and occupied mainland Portugal, with the Royalist government holding out in the Azores, defended by their fleet and by the might of the British Royal Navy, while also attempting to attack Nationalist territories in Africa. The Communards have steadily lost many of their colonial territories scattered throughout the globe, being invade and occupied by the myriad Allied nations fighting against them, with the remainder switching sides under the newfound Free French government, led by political leaders exiled by the PCF. The Russians have also made smaller invasions into the Caucasus, Finland, and Central Asia, finding a bit of success in steamrolling smaller nations such as the Cossack Republics but quickly found themselves breaking upon defenses like water on rock especially against the Iranian titan. The exile nation of Siberia, biding its time for the right moment to strike, have finally launched their long-anticipated offensive against the Soviets, overwhelming the local border guards and capturing the city of Krasnoyarsk, aided by the presence of Mongolian troops who fight courageously in spite of their small numbers.

In North America, California had attempted to attack Denver and the Franklin state capitol of Auraria, moving troops and materiel through myriad passages in the Rocky Mountains. The cities are devastated by aerial bombardment, forcing thousands to be evacuated east to Topeka, Omaha, and Wichita and north to Cheyenne and Casper. However, after a year-long battle, the Americans have broken their adversaries and have been on the offensive ever since, pushing into Utah and Nevada while the Texian army crossed the Rio Grande to march towards Phoenix and the Arizona state capitol of Prescott. Additional US armies advance from the north, assaulting Redding and bypassing Lake Lahontan as they barrel towards Reno and Carson City. Allied submarines prowl the Californian coastline, sinking shipping and shelling ports, refineries, and oil tanks. A rebellion staged by the Mormon community in Utah in 1941/1942 is successful, liberating the state from Communist rule and allowing the US Army free entry into Salt Lake City, enabling them to push further west into Nevada with little effort. The garrison in the Philippines mutinies against the government in Monterey, forming the Free California Republic with the help of political refugees who fled the People's Republic

However, in December 1941, a wrench was thrown into the Allied Nations' plans when Japan launches a surprise attack on Allied ships moored in Pearl Harbor in ostensibly-neutral Hawaii. Warships from seven different nations (USA, FCR, Alyeska, Chile, Denmark, New Zealand, and Gran Colombia) were sunk and some 3,400 Allied personnel dead or wounded, most of them hailing from the foreign navies. The Hawaiians only lost several ships and their smaller casualty numbers was due to the fact that most of their ship crews were on shore, sleeping in their homes, so most weren't aboard the ships when the Japanese attacked. The following day, the news of the attack had reached Washington D.C, and President Willkie gave a speech before the Congress about the sudden attack and how now, the United States and her allies were at war with the Empire of Japan. Several days later, Japan's allies Korea and Khurmusekchi issued declarations of war upon the Western Allies, signalling the beginning of the whirlwind that swallowed the Pacific. Within weeks of the attack, island possessions of Hawaii, the USA, Britain, FCR, and Alyeska had fallen under Japanese occupation and Hong Kong, Kiatschou, the Philippines, and Malaya were being invaded and overrun.

The Imperial Japanese Navy defeated Allied fleets in a string of engagements, their enemies scattered and utilizing obsolescent ships, enabling navy infantry and army troops to land on islands throughout the Central Pacific and claim them for the Empire. Hawaii itself was directly invaded by Khurmusekchese troops with Japan and Shatsky's support, the Royal Army fighting a desperate war on their own homeland while its navy did battle with the Co-Prosperity Sphere's fleets.

In the spring of 1942, a new series of declarations would occur as the so-called "Balkan Axis", Serbia, Greece, and Romania would declare war on their neighbors: Hungary, Bulgaria, and Turkey. Almost immediately, bombers began swarming over Budapest, Sofia, and Constantinople while tens of thousands of Axis troops crossed borders and occupied territory, catching the meager local defenses by surprise.
