A skeledirge and his son, a fuecoco, both happen to be big fans of water! While the fuecoco hasn't learned to swim very well yet, his dad is perfectly fine with helping him out by letting him hold onto them while they swim for him. Despite being fire types, they're both fairly good at holding their breath, and they're going to have a great time together!

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: one day, out in a private lake...a Fuecoco and his dad a Skeledirge were getting ready to have some father/son time together, both of them are huge fans of the water, but sometimes the fuecoco can get a little uneasy around the water since they don't really swim all that well, so as the fuecoco was walking up to the lake, a hint of nervousness is shown on his face

L: Once the two of them get closer to the water, the skeledirge notices the fuecoco's expression. "Are you feeling okay? I know that look you have..."

S: "H-huh?" the Fuecoco was lost in thought for a moment before turning to his dad
"Oh...i-im fine..." he tries to push his nerves out of his head, but it's starting to get the better of him

L: "...Maybe I'm just imagining it, nevermind." They continue to the lake, and the skeledirge gets into the water. "Alright, ready to do some swimming?"

S: "Yeah, o-of course!" the fuecoco tries to act excited and hide his true feelings as he very carefully gets into the water too, he looks down at the water's surface... now a clear sign of fear on his face, he knows after they go for a little swim on the surface that they may submerge, which is what's making him nervous, most of the time he tries not to let his fears get the better of him, but every once in a while it can sometimes slip through

L: "Okay, now I KNOW I wasn't imagining that. You don't need to hide it when you get nervous about water, okay? I can't exactly help you if I don't know it's happening."

S: the fuecoco sighs

"I'm sorry dad... it's just sometimes I get so nervous when I go in water because I don't swim very well... plus, submerging still sometimes still scares me, even tho it shouldn't with how much I love the water"

L: "Well, we don't have to go underwater if you don't want to, you can just stay on my back and I can swim around for you. At some point though, you do need to try to get more comfortable with being in water."

S: "Ugh, I know... I'm just not mentally ready to go underwater just yet... I've only managed it like 2 times with you before..." for now, the fuecoco holds onto his dad's back, hoping the feeling of swimming around will help him out

L: "Just try your best to relax for now." The skeledirge starts swimming, doing his best to keep his son dry while showing him around the surface of the lake.

S: the fuecoco smiles a bit as he takes a look around the surface of the lake, slowly feeling a little better, but eventually it may seen like I'll be time to hopefully get the fuecoco to submerge

L: The skeledirge comes to a stop. "Alright, I think this might be a good time for you to try going under again. You can still hold onto me, that's fine, but you need to go under at some point."

S: the fuecoco's mouth drops open a bit

"Uh oh... I don't know if I could do it dad... I'm scared..." the fuecoco frowns a bit, unsure what to do

L: "You've done it before, I'm sure you can do it again. Just might take a bit of mental preparation, that's all."

S: "I-i guess... but..." the fuecoco sighs again "I just I don't know... maybe I'm overreacting here, it still feels scary not being able to breathe and all... and I don't wanna drown..."

L: "I'll admit, not being able to breathe while underwater scared me when I was young too... But it's worth that, and I'll make sure you won't have to worry."

S: "Well, I have to trust my own dad... alright alright I'll give it a shot then, and I'll try my best not to have a panic attack"

L: "Atta boy! We'll start out with a short dive, maybe 5 seconds, and just below the surface. Does that sound good to you?"

S: "Uhhh...." deep down the fuecoco thought that was too long, but he tries to not think about it that much
"I-i suppose so dad..."

L: "Alright, we'll try that first then. Get a deep breath and we'll head under!"

S: "Oh man, this is really happening..." the fuecoco tries to calm himself down and get ready to go under, but he's delaying the inevitable and not taking a breath yet

L: The skeledirge waits for a while, but he can eventually tell what's happening. "...Are you just stalling?"

S: the fuecoco gasps as he heard his dad
"Huh?? N-no I'm not!" the fuecoco then proceeds to blush

L: "You don't have to worry, okay? There's nothing to be scared of, it'll just be one quick dive then we'll surface again. I do this all the time, and I don't get scared."

S: "That's different, your much more braver then me at this kind of stuff, I'm just a little kid... your an adult..."

L: "I suppose that's true... But how are you going to get brave like me if you can't overcome your fear of this?"

S: "I-i mean, I suppose you have a point there... I guess I'll have to overcome my fear so I could be brave too, cause I wanna be brave like you dad..."

L: "I know you do! Plus, this ought to be pretty easy to get used to, even with us being fire types."

S: "Yeah...right... well, I guess that's shouldn't delay this further then... so, let's try this again, for real this time"

L: "Yep, just like I said before, just hold your breath once you feel like you're ready, okay?"

S: "Alright..."
this time, it didn't take too long for the fuecoco to eventually take a deep breath and holding it in, squeezing his eyes shut as he was ready to go under

L: The skeledirge quickly takes a breath of his own and dives underwater, swimming along just deep enough that his son will be entirely underwater as well.

S: as soon as the fuecoco's body was fully underwater, they whimper at the feeling of the water around them, blowing out constant bubbles of air

L: As he'd said before, the skeledirge stays underwater for about 5 seconds before returning to the surface, getting the fuecoco back above the water. "Alright, nice job!"

S: the fuecoco gasps in the air once he's able to

"O-oh man!! That was crazy, and scary!"

L: "But, you did it! 5 seconds is still a pretty good amount of time, with you being so scared about it!"

S: "Yeah, I guess I did do it... it's not as horrible as I thought it would be, but I was still pretty nervous"

L: "Do you feel like you might want to try going longer next time? We're already doing good now, may as well keep going, right?"

S: "Longer then 5 seconds?? I-i don't know about that... how much longer are we talking?"

L: "Well, not entirely sure... Maybe 10 seconds? I'm pretty sure that'll be fine, that's still a pretty short time."

S: "10 seconds?? Oh boy...I don't know if I can last that long down there..." the fuecoco sighs

L: "I think you can! You can definitely at least hold your breath that long, and I'm sure you can stay calm enough for it too."

S: "If you say so...alright, i-ill give it a try then... maybe it won't be so bad..."

L: "Just take a deep breath when you're ready, like last time, and we'll try this out. I'm nearly certain you'll be able to do this."

S: "Let us hope..." after some hesitation the fuecoco eventually takes a deep breath and holds it like before, his eyes squeezed shut and ready to go under

L: The skeledirge holds his breath as well and dives once again, staying at the same depth as before and watching his son to make sure they'll be okay.

S: the fuecoco whimpers once again, constantly losing air bubbles as he fights to keep his breath held, hoping to last the full 10 seconds

L: Soon enough, it's been 10 seconds, and the skeledirge surfaces with the fuecoco again. "Alright, 10 seconds! Wasn't so bad, right?"

S: the fuecoco gasps a little heavier then last time and smiles a bit at his accomplishment

"Y-yeah, it wasn't that bad I guess... I was still struggling tho"

L: "Still, I can tell you're proud of yourself for managing that amount of time. How about we try going deeper next?"

S: "D-deeper?? And be farther away from the fresh air?! I don't think so!!"

L: "Okay, well... It'll have to be either that or a 30 second breath hold. We need to keep you improving at being comfortable underwater some way or another."

S: "30 seconds?!?! Dad your crazy!!! I don't think I could do either!!! That's just asking for me to drown!"

L: "...Now that I think about it, that's probably too much of a jump for now. 20 seconds, then."

S: "Ugh... screw this, I'll just do both of them... it's gonna suck a lot, but if I wanna get comfortable with water then that's what I have to do..."

the fuecoco sighs heavily... wondering how he's gonna be able to do all of this

L: "Okay, we'll head deeper than before, and I'll make sure it's still only 20 seconds. Let me know when you're ready."

S: the fuecoco now really tries to delay the inevitable this time, but he's trying to get himself calm for all this

L: "Just relax, it'll be okay... As weird as it might sound right now, you'll be okay with diving someday, I know it."

S: "I don't know about that... I'm pretty shooken up, but I'm trying to stay calm for this... I really am"

L: "I know you are... Each dive, this should get easier for you. It's slow, yeah, but we'll get there eventually."

S: "Thanks dad... this is why I look up to you more then my mom... your much wiser then her, hehe... ok, I think I'm ready to go"

L: The skeledirge chuckles. "Don't let her hear you say that... But, yep, get a deep breath and we'll head under again."

S: the fuecoco giggles, what he said made me happy just enough to take a deep breath and calm down further

L: The skeledirge holds his breath and dives again, this time going deeper than before, though still only to about 10 feet down.

S: the fuecoco actaully manages to stay calmer despite being a bit deeper, he's trying his hardest not to think about it as his eyes are closed, only letting small bubbles loose from his nostrils

L: The skeledirge smiles at how much better his son's already doing, and keeps watching them after they've been underwater for 10 seconds.

S: the fuecoco gives a tiny smile as he as relaxes, hugging his dad tightly to try and chase away those fears

L: Soon, 20 seconds in total have passed, and the skeledirge swims back up, knowing the time goes a little longer than the two had agreed to in the process. "Well, you certainly seemed to be doing a lot better that time!"

S: the fuecoco gasps a bit more lightly this time
"Whoa...how did I get so calm?! That was strange..."

L: "I'm not really sure what happened either... But hey, whatever it was, it was a pretty big help, huh?"

S: "Yeah! I guess so! Glad it ended up helping me out!"

L: "How about we make more use of that extra confidence while you've got it, and try out an even longer dive?"

S: "Longer then that?? Oh jeez...how long are we talking this time??"

L: "I don't have a goal in mind this time, just... Until you get too uncomfortable to stay under."

S: "Hmm...well, alright then I guess we'll see how long I can last then..."

L: "Okay then. One more deep breath, and I'll show you around underwater."

S: "Ok..." the fuecoco hesitates a little before he eventually takes the biggest deep breath he can and holds it in, ready to explore underwater

L: With a deeper breath than before, the skeledirge dives once again, heading about 10 feet down like last time before starting to swim around with his son on him.

S: the fuecoco opens his eyes to look around the place, his cheeks slightly puffy as small bubbles escape him, the water kind of stung his eyes so he couldn't see all that well, but he was trying his best to enjoy it

L: The skeledirge has his cheeks puffed a bit as well, but he's of course having an easier time than the fuecoco. He hopes they'll be comfortable with this dive for a fairly long time as he continues showing them around.

S: the fuecoco starts to whimper as the thoughts of not seeing what's around him is getting to the best of him, his face already flushing a little red because of it

L: It finally occurs to the skeledirge that he needs to get his son goggles at some point... But, for now, he just keeps swimming.

S: the fuecoco then shuts his eyes to prevent them from being in anymore pain, his blush slowly spreading across his face, he doesn't know how long they have been under, but to him it felt like a long time

L: By now it's been about 50 seconds, and as the skeledirge sees that the fuecoco has their eyes closed again, he decides it's time to surface, heading back up with them. "You looked like you were getting too uncomfortable... We have to get you goggles at some point so you can see better underwater."

S: the fuecoco gasps for breath when he's able to

"My eyes did kind of hurt when I tried to open them... I think I would really need those goggles if I'm gonna get fully comfortable underwater...how long were we even under??"

L: "I think that was a little under a minute... Pretty good improvement once again!"

S: "Whoa... I didn't think I would get that far! I feel pretty proud of myself!"

L: "You should be, you went all the way there from just 5 seconds! If you want though, we can just relax for now, you've already made a lot of progress."

S: "Yeah...I definitely think I need a break... I wish you brought a pair of goggles with us or something so I could keep going..."

L: "I should've remembered that, yeah... Forgot that you need them, since I don't. Water barely affects my vision at all."

S: "Lucky... don't think I'm gonna be able to go back under without them...I didn't realize how bad it stings my own eyes.."

L: "Alright, we'll just hang out on the surface then. Next time we come by, I'll make sure we bring some goggles for you."

S: "Thanks dad, I would appreciate that very much" the fuecoco smiles

L: "Anything for you, buddy!" The skeledirge lets himself just float on the surface, lazily swimming around.

S: the fuecoco giggles, then he decides to swim on his own for once, he gets off his dad and starts to lazily swim by his side as well

L: The skeledirge smiles as he watches his son swim, nuzzling them a bit.

S: the fuecoco nuzzled his dad back a bit, continuing to lazily swim around and having a really good time
