When the humans arrived on the continent they had no magics. We were at peace. The various races had settled into an uneasy truce. None of us could defeat another nor did we trust each other enough for an alliance. We held a series of games to show our might to the others. These included our magics.

The humans studied and tested. They found no paths to their magics through our methods. They could not speak with the stone like the Dwarves. They could not commune with the spirits like us Elves. They could not harness the elements' rage like the Orcs.

It wasn't until the Twisted Hoard found their way back to our lands that the humans found their magic. It was the magic of war and death.

Their necromancers raised legions of the undead to fight the chimeric monstrosities. Their enhancers fought with the juggernauts on equal footing. It was their channelers though, that truly turned the tide of the war.

They are the rarest form of mage. They channel the energy and emotions of battle to fuel their spells. When the first channeler awakened his power he was heard telling the Chimera lord "The dead shall dance and all of Hell shall sing."

Red here. I wrote this story while waiting for the current project to buffer. Surprisingly a typewriter isn't that fast at loading programs. I want to see if anyone can guess the 3 main settings/stories that inspired this story.
