I just had a thought inspired by that disembodied head; what if they could direct John's mutation. The head mentioned that his vocal cords regenerated. I assume that Clotho has been feeding her "patients" otherwise they'd be cannibalizing their own flesh for the regeneration. If they don't make a proper cure they could potentially keep John unmerged with other infected.
