I saw it 4,000 years ago at the library before I knew about the concept of puffing with pride.... it left me pleasantly confused. The reason for his derpy expression is because he's mimicking the derpiness of the frog from that cartoon. The explosion is also my attempt at stylizing it similarly to the cartoon. I think the frog's eyes get starry in the book adaptation.
