What Happened To Sam The Farmer - Ghost Train/Percy’s Ghostly Trick deleted scene

By SteamLocoLtMtn

Note: I know I am late for the 40th anniversary of Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends TV show but this is to make up for the delay plus consider this as an early Halloween special

(Crowe’s Farm Crossing, Ffarquhar Branch Line, Island Of Sodor)

Earlier that evening, Sam The Farmer was task to delivering a cart load of lime to Mr. Crowe's forty-acre field. He asked Farmer Finney to use Terence The Tractor in which he agreed, the cart was hooked up to Terence and they continued on their way. Terence was enjoying the country lane but Sam was anxious as it was getting dark so he hurried Terence up.

Presently they came to the level crossing of Crowe’s Farm. Terence crossed over but the cart bumped, jolted and stopped. Sam looked back, the cart’s wheels had fallen off and the cart had blocked the crossing. He tried to use Terence to move the cart but Terence tugged and slipped. “Bother,” grumbled Sam, “We better get help.” So he drove Terence to the farm to get help but little did he know that Percy The Small Engine was approaching the level crossing.

Percy saw the cart full of lime, his driver applied the brakes…..there was a crash. Percy broke the cart to smithereens, lime flew everywhere! As soon as Sam got help, he and Terence were shocked; the lime scattered everywhere, the broken cart, worst of all Percy was covered in lime. The farm workers were so scared that they thought Percy was really a ghost. “Anyone would think that you’re a ghost, Percy,” said Terence. Percy didn’t answer, Sam and some of Mr Crowe’s farm workers helped cleared the mess and Percy puffed off to the nearest signal box. As the last bag of lime was recovered, Sam continued to finish the delivery but he think he had enough of farm work.

The next day, Sam decided to retire from being a farmer and decides to leave for the Mainland to find other work. From that day on, Crowe’s Farm has no farmer and Farmer Finney decided to run the farm instead. As for Percy, well the lime did help him pretend to be a ghost as he played a trick on Thomas The Tank Engine to pay him out for being silly. Percy was being cleaned up to get the lime off him.

Sam The Farmer was no longer a farmer as he was the owner of the treacle factory as he made lots of treacle and his treacle was delivered all across the world. However one load of treacle has made it to the Island of Sodor, as Percy arrived with his trucks loaded with hay; he and his driver decided to go home early when one of the creates of treacle was being unloaded, the cane’s chain snapped and a create of treacle was upset all over Percy!

And after that, that’s the real reason why Sam The Farmer hasn’t appeared after Ghost Train.

I don't usually do Thomas & Friends content, but this is the only exception. I know that I am late for the Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends 40th anniversary for the television show. But I decided to make a short story not only to make up for the lateness of the show's 40th anniversary but consider this as an early Halloween special.

One of the biggest mysteries that I had is this. What Happened To Sam The Farmer after the events from Ghost Train (or Percy's Ghostly Trick for the US audiences). He was mentioned and was shown in a deleted scene picture but after that where "he went to find help after a cartload of lime was stuck on the level crossing" he was never seen again. This left me with an unanswered theory as I wondered why he never heard again although he works at Crowe's Farm in Thomas' Branch Line. Also, the treacle part in the "Wooly Bear"  episode, made me think "Wait, did he leave Sodor to become a treacle factory owner?

This is the only exception for Thomas & Friends content. So enjoy this short story

There is a title card for the story, Percy The Small Engine is puzzled by the encounters of both a cart full of lime and a create of treacle as he was wondering about Sam The Farmer who mysteriously left the Island of Sodor after resigning his position as a farmer.

Trivia:
- First artwork of Percy The Small Engine from Thomas & Friends*
*I hardly draw any Thomas characters
- Percy's sad face is based on his series 3 - 12 face mask
