Late one unusually warm October night Sonic was awoken by a searing pain pulsing across his abdomen, he shifts positions to sit upright, both paws resting on his huge belly that was clenched tight under his fingers. The dark blue werehog whines softly and begins to pant as the pain finally eases up enough for him to register the sounds of soft whimpering and growling that were coming from his equally pregnant mate, who's black and red streaked fur was matted with sweat as he paced around their den. Sonic's nose twitches at the strong scent of blood and amniotic fluid that was dripping onto the floor, forming a trail of small puddles on the ground behind Shadow.
Sonic lets out a soft bark and approaches the other werehog, being careful not to startle him as he tenses up and squeezes his eyes shut. Shadow's long, barbed tail lifts up as he raises his backside into the air and begins to bare down hard. His sharp claws dig into the dirt floor of the den as he strains against the pain, causing more bloody fluid to pool at his feet as his hole begins to bulge outward from the large mass that was pressing against it from the inside.
The green eyed werehog yelps and gasps when an intense pressure settles into his pelvis, only for it to vanish when he feels a popping sensation that was accompanied by a gush of sticky amniotic fluid that coated his backside and legs. Shadow's head shoots up to look in Sonic's direction, causing the bulge to recede a bit when the darker werehog stops pushing to check on his love. He manages to waddle over to be at Sonic's side, the weight of his first pup in his birth canal making his stride clumsy and awkward. Shadow nuzzles his muzzle against Sonic's before he starts grooming the other's fur as clean as he could before they both have another contraction. Sonic pants and whines through the pain while Shadow starts to push again, growling from the effort it took to do so as a sac began to emerge from his hole. The top of his pup's head starting to stretch him wider and wider the more it crowned.
Sonic's fluffy tail wags a bit at the impressive sight that was unfolding before him as he lowers himself into a deep squat, the position easing some of the pain that was growing in his hips. Shadow's growling escalated into a fierce snarl as his entrance burned from the strain of passing such a large head so slowly, his hole already stretched nearly to it's limit when the pup's head finally burst out in a gush of bloody fluid, still encased in an amniotic sac as it dangled out of Shadow's body. Shadow reaches a paw down to delicately cradle the head in his large palm as he pants heavily to try and catch his breath, being careful not to rupture the sac with his claws just yet.
Shadow looks over to his mate beside him and his ears perk up in surprise when he sees that the first of Sonic's litter was about to start emerging as well, it's mass already pressing against Sonic's slit and causing a round bulge to form behind the stretched skin and muscles although the pup wasn't visible yet. That would change soon enough though as Sonic begins his first attempt at pushing, fangs bared as he bares down with all of his might. Sonic's slit begins to spread open to allow a small sliver of bloody fur to be seen just inside before it disappears back in when Sonic has to stop pushing to breathe.
The striped werehog lets out a shuddering howl as he resumes his efforts to birth his own litter, only for his first pup's shoulders to become stuck just inside of his painfully stretched entrance. Shadow shifts his legs further apart and raises his backside even more, rocking side to side slightly in an attempt to wiggle the pup's shoulders free. Sonic nuzzles and licks his love's face to comfort him, being unable to do much else to help due to being in labor as well.
While Shadow struggled to push his pup out Sonic yelps and whimpers in pain at another contraction taking hold and forcing him to push as well, although his efforts were resulting in much smoother progress than his mate. Sonic's first pup quickly reached a full crown, spreading his slit as wide open as it was able to stretch. The blue werehog yelps at the burning sting between his legs as the pup's head slowly began to emerge on it's own, even without him pushing.
Shadow cries out when his pup suddenly shifts and slides free into his waiting hand, it's amniotic sac breaking open when the pup begins to move it's limbs and takes it's first breaths. Shadow quickly brings the pup to his fluffy chest so he can lick it's fur clean and bite off the umbilical cord that connected them. The newborn mewls and squeaks as it wriggles around in search of milk, soon finding it's prize hidden within it's Papa's chest fur.
Sonic leans forward onto the balls of his feet, legs awkwardly spread apart as he squatted beside Shadow. A large mass of bloody black fur bulging out from between his legs as he fights his body's instinct to push, he had to let his skin stretch on it's own to lessen the chances of his slit tearing from the strain being forced upon it. He groans and pants heavily, eyes shut tight as the burning in his groin begins to ease up a bit. Time to start pushing again.
Shadow shifts uncomfortably and lays down on his side, his long tail coiled up and out of the way as another bulge begins to form beneath it. His second pup was ready to enter the world. He glances over at Sonic just in time to watch the blue werehog finally push his first pup's head out in a burst of sticky amniotic fluid and blood, thankfully not tearing from the size of the head. Sonic sighs in relief at the release of pressure, however brief it was before the shoulders began to ram their way through his aching slit.
Sonic gently supports the pup's head with his paw before taking a deep breath and baring down with all of his strength, grunting and whining as his pup slowly squeezed out of his tired body and slid out safely into the palm of his paw. The newborn wailed and squeaked as Sonic started licking it clean, letting his body rest while he still had the chance.
Shadow smiles and lets out a soft bark to praise his mate, causing Sonic to look over and do the same. The pair exchange nuzzles and kisses, both of them feeling a bit more energized from the display of affection and care for their new family. The dark werehog winces and holds his still swollen belly as the urge to start pushing again interrupts the sweet moment with his love and the first of their pups. He carefully spreads his legs apart and bares down, causing blood to dribble out of his entrance as it starts opening up again to allow his pup to pass through.
Sonic nudges his newborn towards his chest so it can have it's first meal, flinching a bit when his contractions start up again. He decides to just pant through them until his firstborn is finished feeding. Shadow grunts softly and slowly moves to kneel on all fours with his rear angled towards the ground, that position just felt most right to him. As he changed position his entrance bulged even more until his pup began crowning, the now familiar burning sensation catching Shadow off guard due to how soon it became noticeable. This pup was coming faster than it's older sibling. The striped werehog rocked side to side again, letting his body do the work this time instead of fighting against it. Sonic whines and gives in to his instincts to continue delivering his litter, his efforts bringing forth a pair of tiny feet. His next pup was a footling breech.
Shadow grunts in pain when his pup's head squeezes through his stinging entrance, bringing more mess along with it. The sticky wetness soaked his thighs and the ground beneath him as he continued rocking his hips side to side, the motion bringing some small form of comfort and giving him something to focus on while he pushed. The pup's shoulders worked their way through one at a time before the rest of it's body quickly follows and Shadow catches it in the palm of his paw, the little pup already squeaking and waving it's tiny limbs around in search of warmth and comfort from it's parent. Shadow smiles tiredly and quickly cleans the pup's fur, nudging it to his chest beside it's sibling so it can feed.
Sonic pants and whines through clenched teeth as he pushes, keeping his efforts controlled and careful so his pup wouldn't be harmed due to it's less than ideal position in his birth canal. Despite the pain and exhaustion he can't help the smile that spreads across his face at the sight of Shadow feeding their pups, judging by how big his belly still looked it didn't seem like he was done just yet. Sonic wondered how big Shadow's litter was, or how big his own litter was for that matter. The blue werehog gasps at the feeling of his pup's legs and butt leaving his body and he shifts his position a bit so he could see what was happening between his legs in case he had to help the pup quickly.
Shadow's body tenses and his tail flicks around a bit when he feels intense pressure building at his entrance and the urge to push kicks in yet again, he gently moves his sleeping pups aside so he can adjust his position and start delivering his third pup. He decides to lean back on his elbows and forearms with his legs spread apart, his tail wrapped around itself to keep the barbed tip away from the pups. He bares down and growls from the effort, this pup felt noticeably larger than it's siblings. He groans and yelps as the pressure keeps on growing more and more intense, the feeling quickly being joined by a searing burning sensation, his entrance being spread wide to accommodate the large pup that was trying to squeeze through it.
Sonic yelps and gasps when his pup suddenly squeezes out and begins to cry and squeak loudly. He carefully picks up the little pup and starts grooming it's wet fur, cradling it close to keep it warm and encourage it to start feeding. The newborn wiggled in his arms before settling in against his chest, comforted by the familiar sound of Sonic's heartbeat and the presence of it's sibling laying beside it.
Shadow grunts and growls as he pushes hard, baring down with all of his strength to try and deliver his next pup. He stops pushing to catch his breath, only to groan in frustration when he notices that he wasn't making any progress despite how much effort he was putting into each push. The large pup was stuck. Shadow carefully stands up on all fours and begins to slowly pace around the den, hoping that moving around would help to shift his pup enough for him to be able to push it out safely.
Sonic watches his mate with concern, deciding to get up and check on him before a strong contraction forces him to lay back down again. His third pup was ready to join it's siblings. The blue werehog whimpers and barks softly to get Shadow's attention, wanting him to come back to be at his side where he can comfort the red eyed werehog while they gave birth to their litters together.
Shadow slowly made his way back to Sonic, stopping once to try pushing again with little result, and lays down next to him. The blue werehog moves to check Shadow's progress and gasps when he sees why his mate was having such a hard time, he was delivering two pups at the same time. Both pups were quite small but they were encased inside one amniotic sac together. Sonic nuzzles Shadow and licks his cheek before using his claws to very carefully pop the sac and ease some of the strain on Shadow's entrance, hopefully making the delivery a bit easier for him.
Sonic gently rests a paw on one of the pups to hold it back while Shadow tries to push the other pup out first, nearly crying in relief when he feels that his efforts were finally making progress again. The striped werehog grunts and growls softly while he pushes, rocking his hips to try and speed the process along. Sonic smiles softly at his love and his tail wags behind him, causing him to wince when the motion causes a sharp pain in his backside due to his third pup pressing against his tailbone as it began to crown. The navy blue werehog tries to ignore his body's demands to push while he helped Shadow with his difficult birth.
Shadow pants heavily to catch his breath before pushing as hard as he can, causing both of his pups to squeeze their way free at the same time despite Sonic's attempt to hold one of them back. Shadow cries out in pain and reaches his trembling paws down to pick up his last two pups, thanking Gaia when the afterbirth passes on it's own and brings an end to his long labor. He lays down with all four of his pups held protectively against his chest to keep them warm, the youngest two start to feed while their siblings slept peacefully.
Sonic nuzzles and grooms Shadow, licking his fur clean and checking him out for any injuries his labor could have caused. He barks softly and smiles at Shadow when he doesn't find anything wrong with his exhausted love, he lays down beside Shadow with their pups between them. Shadow gives Sonic a tired smile and wags his long tail, relieved to finally be able to rest with his family and keep an eye on Sonic to make sure that the rest of his litter was delivered safely as well.
Satisfied that Shadow was properly taken care of and would be alright Sonic turned his focus back to birthing the rest of his litter, hopefully he would be able to rest soon too. Sonic reaches a paw down between his legs to carefully cup the crowning pup's head, supporting it as he stood up on all fours and resumed pushing again. Thankfully it seemed like his third pup was going to go easy on him, it's head emerging swiftly with one push. Sonic sighs in relief and gently strokes the small head that was resting in his paw as the shoulders began to squeeze their way through with every gentle push he gave until the pup tumbles out into his paws and starts squeaking and crying, he lowers himself to crouch on his knees as he grooms the pup and feeds it.
Shadow offers to take the pup so his mate didn't have to worry about accidentally dropping it while birthing the rest of his litter, as it quickly became apparent that Sonic was still in labor when his slit started to bulge outward yet again as his fourth pup began to enter the world.
Sonic rests his paws on his knees and takes a few, long, deep breaths to steady himself as the bulge behind his slit grew bigger and bigger until a sac began to bubble out of it, spreading his entrance open wide to make way for what he hoped would be the last of his litter. He grunts softly while pushes, keeping his efforts firm but gentle as the pup's head eased out still encased in the safety of it's sac. He shuts his eyes and pants softly to catch his breath while his pup continued to slowly squeeze through on it's own, the sac rupturing once the shoulders began to pass through Sonic's slit.
Shadow watched in amazed wonder as his love somehow managed to keep the birth of his tiny pup controlled and relaxed until it quickly slide out into Sonic's waiting paws in one final rush of bloody fluid, the afterbirth quickly following to signal the end of Sonic's labor. Sonic groans softly and lays down beside Shadow, licking the runt of his litter to clean it's sticky fur while it sniffed at his chest to find milk. Shadow grins and showers Sonic with nuzzles and kisses, praising him for handling everything they had gone through that long night.
The two exhausted werehogs cuddled closer to each other with their eight pups safely snuggling between them, their eyes and folded ears still shut for the time being as they sniffed and squeaked at their new surroundings. Sonic smiles when a warm breeze drifts through the den, bringing the crisp scent of freshly fallen leaves and recent rain with it. He looked to the entryway of the den to see that sunrise was just starting to appear through the trees that surrounded the pair's small den, they would have to expand it soon to accommodate their new family members and any future litters they might decide to have one day.
Shadow was already sound asleep when Sonic looked back at him, the darker werehog looked absolutely spent. Sonic was certain that he wasn't looking his best either, that was okay though. There would be time to freshen up later, for now it was time to get some well earned sleep before the pups woke up and needed to be fed.
Despite all of the pain and struggling the two of them had just been through that long night they were happy.
