no.5: The Beast in the Crate "Fluffy" - Creepshow

For me, monsters are kinda like the drummer in the band that is horror. They provide the backbone and while they may not be everyone's favorite, they're essential and everyone loves them. In modern times they can seem hokey, but there was a time where the Monster Flick reigned supreme and what's wrong with hokey? I like hokiness in my horror! Take the movie Creepshow for example. It revels in being hokey and while it didn't need a monster for every segment, when they did they stole the show! This is truly defined by the banzai Bigfoot from inside 'The Crate' (aptly referred to as "Fluffy" by cast and crew)

Now Creepshow is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. It's that perfect level of fun cheese that really makes you appreciate it and being an anthology movie, you get more bang for your buck with five small movies instead of one! What a deal! I think in many ways, the anthology format is my favorite way to go about horror. It provides you with just enough before hopping to the next. In the case of Creepshow, I'm hard pressed to pick a favorite segment but of all the things in it, I feel the beast from the crate is easily the most iconic. Sure there's not a lot to him but sometimes it's just the simple things in life that get you by! In truth I could have done a few things from Creepshow, but I chose Fluffy as he perfectly encapsulates the term 'monster' to me.
