Me(narrating): Date, Thursday, July 18th 2024, 8AM. I have reached 25 years old for it is my birthday. I’m to have many pros and cons for the foreseeable future. Starting on the bright side, I will be more able to do things I never thought of doing. Downside is that I’m going to be celebrating my birthday without my beloved mother who has unfortunately passed away in September of last year, so I intend to dedicate my future activities to her and always remember her in my heart.
Me: sigh Well, this is going to be my first birthday to celebrate without my mom. And the rift between me and dad is still wide open. If only there were someone special I could celebrate my birthday with.
At that very moment, I noticed a pink glow coming from outside the window. I walked over to it, lent on the windowsill and gazed at the pink glowing orb floating in the sky.
Me: What in the name of…
The glow suddenly came down towards my house to the left of the window out of sight and then vanished.
Me: Hmm, that’s peculiar.
The doorbell then rang and I walked over to the front door. I opened it, looked down and then saw what looked like a little white rabbit wearing a pink tutu, pink ballet slippers and a gold crown! I immediately recognised her!
Me: Sweet mother of mercy.
Rabbit: Hello!
Me: Are…are you Princess Pring?
Rabbit: Yes I am.
Me: THE Princess Pring?
Rabbit: Everyday birthday!
Me: OHMYGOODNESS! OHMYGOODNESS! OHMYGOODNESS! It’s you! It’s really you!
Princess Pring: giggles and curtsies At your service.
I knelt down and bowed my head to the spectacle before me.
Me: I am Benjamin Finley Arrowsmith, it’s such an honour to finally meet you, Your Majesty.
Princess Pring: It’s so nice to meet you too, Ben. You can call me Pring.
I invited the bunny Princess inside and we sat down on the sofa in the living room together. I then told her all that had happened and what happened to my mother and grandmother.
Pring: sniffs and wipes her tears away with her handkerchief Oh, Ben, I am so sorry for your loss.
Me: That’s alright, Pring. I had a feeling that it would happen anyway. My father is finding hard too.
Pring: I see.
Me: This is going to be my first birthday without her. Even in my sleep, I can still see and hear her.
Pring: Aww…
Me: I just don’t know how to celebrate it. My father’s away on holiday and I just have nothing to do.
Pring thought and thought and thought, and then had an idea.
Pring: I know what we can do!
I turned towards her, looking rather puzzled.
Me: And what would that be, I may ask?
Pring: Let’s do a ballet together, a birthday pas de deux!
My eyes widened and twinkled with joy.
Me: You really mean that?
Pring: giggles Of course I do! Dancing is my specialty. And besides, I’m not called the Princess of the Birthday Kingdom for nothing!
Me: Boy oh boy! This is so exciting! Can I get my camera so I can record it as a memory?
Pring: smiles happily Of course you can.
Feeling ecstatic, I rushed to my bedroom and returned with my video camera. I set it up on its tripod and pressed the record button.
Me: Video diary of Benjamin F Arrowsmith. Date, Thursday, July 18th 2024, 8:15AM. My supposed lonely birthday has taken a surprising turn. Princess Pring of the Birthday Kingdom has arrived unexpectedly at my house this morning and has offered to make my birthday better. Introduce yourself, Pring!
Pring: Hello, friends! I’m Princess Pring. curtsies
Me: Pring and I are going to perform a special birthday ballet together.
Pring: I hope you enjoy our dance.
I then walk over to the stereo, ready to press the play button.
Me: Ready, Pring?
Pring: Ready, Ben.
Me: Okay then. 1, 2, 3, 4.
I press the play button and the stereo starts playing ‘Dance of the Reed Flutes’. Pring then starts her part with a plié and a slow and steady pirouette. She then gets on her tippy toes and moves gracefully from left to right. Then, she holds out her hand and I gently tip-toe into view. We then dance together in the middle of the living room in perfect harmony. I then open my arms and Pring does a grand jeté into my hands. I then lift her over my head and gently twirl around once. I then place her back down and she does another plié and one more pirouette before curtsying to me and I bow to her just as the music comes to a harmonious close. I then turn towards the camera.
Me: And there you go. A marvellous performance done by me and my newest friend, Princess Pring.
Pring: curtsies Thank you all for watching us dance.
Me: My birthday has officially been made all the more special. This is Benjamin F Arrowsmith, fully cheered-up birthday boy, signing off.
I press the button on the camera and the recording stops. I then turned to Pring, tears of joy in my eyes.
Me: Thank you so much for making my birthday special again, Pring. I really do appreciate it.
Pring: Why, it was my great pleasure, Ben. I really enjoyed our dance. Who knew you were so good at ballet?
Me: I learned from the best. winks
Pring then giggles in amusement and I do a small chuckle.
Pring: Would you like me to stay with you for the rest of your birthday? I can bring my friends over if you want.
Me: It would be a great honour, Pring. You truly are the Princess of the Birthday Kingdom.
Pring blushes and giggles cutely.
A few moments later, Pring, her friends and I were having a great party. There was plenty of presents, fun games and dances and Pring sang her signature birthday song and we sang along too. Our party lasted long into the night and I would always remember it as the very first time I met Pring and how she made me feel happy again.
The End.
