I believe this one might require an explanation.

The left side of the ship is the port side (I won't go into details why, one explanation is that is so because it usually that side which faces port when the ship is docked) and two vessels travelling in the opposite directions should pass on their port sides.

Here the vessel going towards the viewer passes on the starboard.

So, the captain berates the offending vessel by telling them to pass on port side.
