Robby was staying with Rethex for a few days while his daddy was away on a business trip. One sunny afternoon, Rethex was busy in the kitchen starting to prepare lunch when he heard the unmistakable sound of crayons scratching against the wall. Curious, he peeked into the living room to find Robby fully engrossed in his masterpiece. His artwork featured himself and a big red heart and some background scenery that only a child’s mind could conjure. The sight of the colorful, albeit messy, creation on the wall made Rethex’s smile a little at the cuteness but that quickly changed and he frowned and glared sternly at the naughty diapered cub. “Robby!” Rethex called out, his voice stern. He walked over to the boy, who immediately felt a pang of guilt and fear of reprimand. Robby clutched his stuffed plush, which looked almost exactly like Reth, tightly, his eyes welling up with tears as he realized he was in trouble. Rethex took a deep breath, trying to keep his composure. “We’ve talked about this before. The walls are not for drawing,” he said, his voice firm. Without further ado, he took Robby by the hand and guided him to the couch in the living room which they were in and then firmly laid him across his knee. Robby immediately began to struggle, kicking his legs and trying to push himself up. “No, please! I’m sorry! I won’t do it again!” he begged, tears streaming down his cheeks. But Rethex remained silent and stern, knowing that the lesson needed to be learned. Ignoring Robby’s pleas, Rethex held him firmly in place. Using his free hand he tugged down Robby’s diaper exposing his soft round rear and began delivering sharp smacks to Robby’s bottom. Robby yelped with each swat, his struggles becoming more frantic. “Please, no more! It hurts!” he cried, but Rethex continued, his expression unwavering. After a while, Robby’s resistance began to wane. He stopped struggling and lay limp across Rethex’s knee, sobbing quietly as he accepted his punishment. Rethex delivered a few dozen more firm smacks, ensuring that the lesson was clear, before finally stopping. He stood Robby up and guided the crying boy back to the drawing on the wall and knelt down to his eye level, his stern expression softening slightly, very slightly. “Do you understand why I had to do that?” he asked, his voice still serious. Robby sniffled, nodding. “I-I’m sorry. I just wanted to show you my drawing of you,” he mumbled through his tears. Rethex sighed, pulling Robby into a comforting hug. “I know, buddy. And your drawing is beautiful. But we need to find a better place for your art.” He held Robby for a second rubbing at his back as the child sobbed. After that second passed Rethex gently guided him to a corner of the room. “Now, I want you to stand here with your hands on your head and think about why it’s important to follow the rules,” he instructed. “And don’t rub your bottom. If you do, you’ll go back over my knees, but this time I’ll use a wooden hairbrush.” Robby obediently placed his hands on his head and stood in the corner, sniffling quietly. Rethex watched him for a moment, feeling a pang of guilt himself. He didn’t enjoy disciplining Robby, but he knew it was necessary to teach him right from wrong. After about 30 minutes passed, Rethex returned with a large roll of butcher paper and some tape. “Okay, Robby, come here,” he called gently. Robby turned around, wiping away the last of his tears, and walked over to Rethex. “How about we make a special art wall just for you? You can draw as much as you want on this paper, and we can hang it up wherever you like,” Rethex suggested with a warm smile. Robby’s face lit up with excitement. He nodded eagerly, feeling relieved and grateful. Together, they taped the butcher paper onto an empty section of the living room wall, creating a new, designated space for Robby’s artistic endeavors. As Robby happily resumed his drawing, Rethex couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride. He had managed to teach Robby an important lesson without stifling his creativity. And in that moment, surrounded by the vibrant energy of Robby’s artwork, Rethex knew that their time together would be a blend of learning, creativity, and care. |
