[Author's note: This story is an experiment. It's supposed to read like a children's story, but dark themes ahead!]
DREAMWEAVERS
In a small, cosy town, where trees reach the sky and the air is always sweet, lives a little fox named Moondust. His fur is silvery and white and glows like moonlight, and his eyes sparkle like stars in the night sky.
Moony, as his friends call him, is adventurous and imaginative, and lives a happy life. Every day, he gets up, has a shower (making sure to scrub his boy bits well), takes his bed sheets to Mum for the daily wash, puts clothes on, has breakfast and hops in the school bus. He enjoys going to school very much. He loves talking to his friends about cartoons and all sorts of things. He also really enjoys learning new things in class, especially history and geography.
Moony spends his weekends watching cartoons all day long. It's his favourite pastime. He also sometimes goes out with some of his little friends and, together, they explore their neighbourhood, looking for interesting and cool new spots. They enjoy the excitement of being somewhere unexplored.
The silvery fox's life is very simple, and he is content with that. Unfortunately, he struggles with something that he feels a little silly about. Ever since Dad stopped living at home, Moony has been having trouble falling asleep!
Luckily for the young fox, Vesper was there to help him every night. Vesper is Mum's new boyfriend, a wise panther. Vesper knew Moony struggled with falling asleep, so he entrusted the fox with his deepest secret: Vesper is a Dreamweaver.
Dreamweavers are people with special powers. Dreamweavers share some of their magic with little cubs who struggle to sleep all around the world by performing a secret spell. Vesper explained to the little cub that Dreamweavers are only able to reveal themselves and cast their spell on cubs who are blessed by the stars! Vesper told Moony he was blessed by the moon on the night he was born.
Every night, Mum tucks the little fox in bed and gives him a goodnight kiss. Moony always lays in bed with his eyes wide open and feels a little sad about how he misses Dad so very much. Then, shortly after, Vesper walks in the room and gets in bed with Moony. Vesper knows how much Moony struggles to sleep and how he misses Dad. Vesper wants to help, so he kindly shares some of his magic with Moony.
The spell takes a little bit of time to be cast, however. So while Vesper does his magical stuff, Moony cuddles his favourite plushie (a little wolf named Dougie) and imagines all types of things in his mind. He likes coming up with stories where he is a superhero and saves his town from some evil villain, or where he goes on quests to uncharted places all over the world!
Then, after Vesper is done casting his spell, he always reminds our little fox to not tell anyone that he is a Dreamweaver. Only little cubs are meant to know! Vesper always told Moony that he was very lucky to have a kind Dreamweaver to help him sleep.
With Vesper's magic and Dougie by his side, Moony was able to sleep well every night. As he drifted off to sleep, he knew that even though things had changed at home, his dreams would always be filled with warmth and adventure.
My partner likes writing sweet, innocent stories. I love him reading them out to me, and so because I'm me, I thought it'd be a cool idea to turn these stories on their head and make it a little more fucked up. Don't ask what's wrong with me (so many things).
This was a sudden idea I had so it's kind of experimental. I know it's a little weird of a read but hopefully you enjoy!
Honest opinion so far it's a nicely fleshed out read. To be honest though the darker themes arent too deep into the abyss. From Moony's POV, he's not hurt or abused in a violent fashion, and he manages to get back to sleep in the end and seems to be happy.

My intention was to portray it in subtle ways without going deep into the consequences of what those things entail. It was more of a "here's a cute story, oh also, there's some fucked up stuff going on. The end". I know there's not a lot to go on, but this was more of a challenge to myself than anything else :3
Hopefully it was enjoyable enough tho!
