I mean, if I'm remembering correctly (and I might not, been a while), after so long, Mal0 can start to appear in someone's peripheral vision, or in mirrors and reflective surfaces, not just through their phone. Getting rid of the phone before this happens can sometimes stop it, but after that point I don't think getting rid of the phone has any affect. So I guess he had his accident before that point. If he can keep her safe for long enough, she might not need the watch or phone anymore.

Support Mal0 saved MC from getting hit by a car, but in the process the phone she was communicating through got destroyed, so she had to hide in an old smart watch, hence why she's so little now. When MC got a new phone, he tried to re-download the Mal0 app, but instead of getting his old Mal0 back, he got a new one, Gold-digger Mal0. When he ran out of money, she left him to go after some rich guy, and that's when MC found that Support Mal0 was in his watch. Unfortunately, it's not able to link up with his new phone, so she's stuck there till he can get a phone that's compatible.

Instead the containment would be "Observe the situation from afar" and just make her as Safe since she is helping him and he isn't using her for anything nefarious or to get an unfair edge in life

TLDR: Man finds a program that is an entity variant of one that is malicious. This one being helpful and supportive.
He lost the program due to an update and refound it, except this one was malicious. After a while this program moved on to someone who actually had the wealth and means to support her, AKA Gold Digger
Then the original guy found his original program, albeit in a smaller state and is now getting back to normalicy. As for that gold digger program her new victim apparently has the sense to google things, and it alerted the SCP who now is gonna contain her.
