I'm not that good in blender, which is why most of the thumb nails are ai generated, ai art is good and all but ai has tons of trouble making consistent pictures, like you tell the ai to generate 10 pictures of rabbits and all 10 will be different regardless of how hard you try. As for when, Blender has always been free, it's come a far ways from the olden days. Blender is a popular software program so there's tons of videos online, forums, a discord. Go on youtube and there's probably at least 100 videos on how to rig a character or how to make one.
