The sleepover prologue.
A seven-year-old Brown bear named Daniël slowly wakes up as the sun shines through his window. He then feels his pyjamas being wet, and sighs as he realises what that means. “This is the fourth accident this week.’ He softly says.
Just then, his mother enters the room. “Good morning sweetie.” She greets him, before smelling the scent of pee, and frowns. “Daniël?”
“I’m sorry mom, I went to the bathroom last night… and I didn’t drink anything…” Daniël frantically explains.
His mother calms him down. “It’s okay sweetie, I’m not mad.”
“Really?” Daniël asks surprisedly.
“Yes, of course I’m not mad, it’s just an accident.” She replies. “But you might be better off wearing nighttime diapers.”
The cub is shocked as he hears this, and tries to argue back. “Diapers? But I’m not a little baby!”
The mother expected this response, and tries to reason with him. “Doesn’t your friend Benjamin also wear them?”
“Y-yeah, but he wears them day and night because of a medical issue, he can’t help it.” Daniël says. “But I don’t have a bladder problem, so I should be able to just stay dry.”
“But wouldn’t it be better to not have to worry about having accidents?” The mother asks. “And there would be far less laundry.”
“Fine then.” Daniël gives in.
“I knew you would’ve made the right decision.” The mother says. “I already bought you a pack of diapers, and they have car prints.”
“A-all right.” Daniël replies as his mother hands him the pack of diapers. He takes a look at them, but suddenly remembers something. “B-but what about tomorrow?”
“What about it?” The mother asks.
“I have a sleepover tomorrow at Pierre’s house?” Daniël says.
“So you’ll have to wear these there as well.” The mother tells him.
“What! But what if they find out?” Daniël asks, fearing that moment.
“Well, I suppose that beats you wetting your friend's bed.” the mother says. “Plus, they are your friends, I’m sure they’ll be nice to you if they find out.” She assures him.
“I dunno…” Daniël says.
“It’ll be alright.” The mother says as she ruffles her son’s head. “I’ll be in the kitchen preparing breakfast for you and I, how about you get ready?”
“All right mom.” Daniël nods as his mother leaves the room. He continues to sit on his bed, as he wonders how the sleepover will go, and if the others find out. He also thinks about how the others will react once they do find out. The cub just wishes that he can skip the sleepover, but knows that that isn’t possible. So he just goes on with his day, waiting for tomorrow.
