Automatic lip sync + motion capture animation = lazy animation? FUCK NO!!! Neither of these technics was easy to do because they were done by me.
When performing lip sync my software could not detect words in the music properly, so half of it was done or fixed by hand. When performing motion capture - my huge belly was interpreted as if the body was bent in the middle. It was so bad so I was forced to write a program to fix it!
