"As a flawed experiment, Gloomy (formerly Gregory) was not allowed to re-enter Playcare, despite his Smiling Critters guise. The years leading up to the Hour of Joy were spent in isolation in his personal chamber, where Gloomy was allowed to watch the daily adventures and happenings on Playcare via monitors, especially those of his idol Kickinchicken.

During the events of the Hour of Joy, due to the circumstances, Gloomy was finally able to leave his chamber and make his way to the Playcare to finally interact with the Smiling Critters. However, his former home turned into a nightmare and in the heat of the moment, Gloomy decided to team up with DogDay to stop the mad CatNap. This eventually led to Gloomy being captured and tortured by CatNap, thanks to the red sleeping smoke, as a sort of example to those who rebel against the prototype.

Nonetheless, CatNap has been trying to break Gloomy ever since and get him on his side to "convert" more fighters to his deity."

Cartoon-Version:
"Although Gloomy is not officially a Smiling Critter and is considered more of an outsider, he still tries to make connections with them and befriend them.

He tries to teach them, in his own way, that you can survive difficult situations if you grow a thick skin. However, this only goes down well with the Smiling Critters to a certain extent and causes disputes depending on the situation, even if this was not Gloomy's intention.

Fortunately, KickenChicken takes Gloomy under his wing and tries to support Gloomy as much as possible in his endeavors to be useful and a friend to the Critter Crew."
