Love at the Kobukan Sea

(A Lore-Friendly Pokemon Academy Life Forever Story Part 1)

Author's Notes: First, an important notice is this story, while retaining story elements of the game, is not written by the old PAL team (headed by Jeremy, the original creator) or the new team (Headed by Freudian Creations, who is also the writer of Pokemon Academy Life Forever). I am not a part of the new team, so I have no idea where the actual game will go. At the end of the day, I?m just an inspired fan who wanted to write this canon one-shot. In the future, I would certainly love to draw art related to the game (but not assets, as I will let others on the current team handle that), but at the time of writing this, I can only produce stories.

Second, at the time, since there are so many current characters in the game, I decided to have the primary focus be on only six characters. A few will pop up or be mentioned, but not everyone will appear in this one shot. As of now, this is the only thing I intend to write. There might be more things written in the future, but the game must be further along so that the rest of the cast has time to develop. I also know other characters will be added to the game, opening up other writing chances. So if someone you wanted to appear doesn't in this story, there's a chance they can later.

Third, I know everyone has their playthrough of the game, but given what is laid out initially, the three pairings are considered default, canon and OTPs. Sure, one can choose different paths, but I will stick with what my playthrough is going through now for this story. Perhaps I can explore other paths in future writings if they do happen. For now, enjoy this summer story; hopefully, this is received well. Also, please bear in mind that some things will be brought up that those who have played know by heart, but they need to be here for those who have never played this game. Also at points, I will have options just like you have in the game to select choices that can yield different outcomes (Like trait increase or points gained/taken from characters in terms of relationship status).

Finally, for those who haven't played this game or know what it is, let me explain what PALF is. It's a slice-of-life game with Pokemon mechanics added. You take control of Red (Though you can name him whatever you want, just like in the Main Series games, and he does talk, too). During your time at the Academy, you will run into many characters from the games, some being teachers and others being students. You can interact with these characters while training your team and attending classes and events. At the same time, there is a story that also gets crazy at points. I would highly recommend the game for those who want to try something new, though beware to those who have not played it; the game isn't complete at the time of this story. Also, there might be spoilers from the weeks finished so far, so that's just a heads-up. However, it's important to note that everyone in this game (For the students) is 18.

Summer had finally arrived in the Kobukan Region. Located next door to Unova, Kobukan wasn't known for Gyms or even a Pokemon League like all the other Regions. Instead, it was known mainly for the prestigious academy next to the main city, Inspira. Right now, the academy was out for summer break. Out of the three time periods given to the students and staff, this one was the longest, lasting two weeks. Every student used this opportunity to hit one of the best locations to spend time in the hot sun at Kape Karp. It was a famous local beach in a charming town and a hot spot for tourist destinations. One could compare this part of Kobukan to areas of the Alola Region.

However, it wouldn't be all fun and games for the students. Those who went were expected to get some form of internship. It was a fair trade as this arrangement had existed between the academy and the area for years. Plus, not only did the visitors get work experience to help with any resume, they even earned a little money on the side. It also helped the town out, as this time of year was one of the busiest, and having extra hands was a big plus.

A fleet of express busses were rumbling down one of the highways to the Academy's destination, each vehicle filled with students and language. Some of the teachers even went on this trip to supervise or take a break at the beach themselves. So far, good time was being made. Nobody had to be waited on, and the traffic was surprisingly light. It was expected the Academy would arrive by late afternoon, giving enough time to settle into the rooms and have dinner.

It was noisy in one of the packed buses, as nearly everyone was engaged in heated conversation. The topics ranged from locations to visit to what they would do overall. In the middle sat Red, smiling as he turned his phone to sleep mode. He had just been reviewing information on places to visit at Kape Karp so as not to get lost. His brown eyes scanned over who was riding with him as he could easily pick out familiar faces. Red easily spotted the back of Ethan's head some seats ahead. The native of Johto was wearing his cap backward as usual, and he was pretty much the only one at the academy Red knew to do so. What was different this time was that Ethan wasn't going to be in the same group or situation as humanly possible. Since that first meeting day, he and Red have been in the same dorms and classes and got caught in the middle of almost all the crazy events this year.

Given how wild things had gotten, Ethan had caught up with Red to inform the Trainer from Pallet Town that he would be trying to do his own thing for this trip to the best of his ability. It wasn't that Ethan hated Red; he just needed a break. If some trouble were to happen, though, the Johto native would come running to help because that's what friends did. That was a good thing, as Red had plans during this trip and had to admit that Ethan could be like a third wheel many times. So having the Johtanian out of his hair would help. That, and also the dumbass retards who thought they knew Red but were way out beyond left field. From supposed ``jokes'' to the wrong sexuality, to even for some fucked up reason trying to put the Kantonian with the wrong student. One of the worst was with Sabrina, whom Red never had and never would be with like she never would be with him. The Esper had her own man in her life and didn't need anyone else. Nobody at Kobukan Academy was safe from these assaults, not even the facility. Still, even if it got beyond annoying as shit, Red and everyone knew the truth, making all the bullshit that was said entirely false.

Right now, it looked like Ethan had headphones on, probably listening to his favorite music. Right next door on the left, Red spied the captain of the Battle Team, Janine. With her spikey purple hair pulled back, it was child's play to spot her in a crowd. Red wasn't surprised she was coming on this trip as during the last Battle Team meeting, she revealed she and Eri would be accompanying the Academy. One reason was that they could find Janine if Red, Ethan, and the rest of the team needed to check to ensure their Pokemon were at the right level. Another was so she and Eri could observe and perhaps pick up some new tactics to use for the upcoming events the team would participate in. And like everyone else, Janine needed a break, as being a captain could be stressful at times. That didn't mean she expected any team members to slack off. While no team meetings would happen as everyone would probably be busy with internships and fun, she would keep an eye on them. And of course, if they wanted to practice and train with her team, that was fine too.

``No way in hell I'm falling behind,'' Red thought as he knew there would be a chance to explore and battle the local wild Pokemon, perhaps even some Trainers. Even the internships during this trip could help with his team's growth as many of them were the kind that humans and Pokemon could work together in harmony. Plus, with his financial situation, Red would do his hardest to get as much money as possible. Luckily, there was still time before the first payment, and the Kantonian felt confident he could pay that in full at the rate he was going.

Smiling, Red looked to his right to see four students with whom he would share the same room on this trip. The day before, the rooming list had been posted to give the students time to talk with whom they'd be roommates with. Red had chosen to sign up with who he wanted to be with rather than have it be randomly picked. He knew who would be perfect for the trip and had mainly gotten what he wanted. He and Ethan had done it simultaneously to ensure their choices weren't the same, and luckily, they weren't sharing a room per the latter's wishes.

Brendon and May were the first of two students Red would share a room with. Both Hoennians were some of the first people Red met when starting the school year and still cool with him. With his happy, go-lucky attitude, Brendon was easy to get along with. As for May, she was always cheery, bubbly, and someone one could easily talk to. Even while on the bus, the two appeared cozy and sweet. That was no surprise as the Hoennians were dating. Seeing the pair be cute was adorable, mainly because May was a cutie, but Red never saw them as more than friends, as he wasn't a homewrecker. He had the couple's back and supported their relationship. The Kantonian would rather see them happy and couldn't understand why anyone would want to ruin something so beautiful.

One of the most fucked up and horrible things that everyone could agree on at the Academy were the sick fucks and freaks out there who drooled all over the ladies. For those that didn't, there were mentions of breaking Brendon up with May and chucking him. The couple hated shit like that, which probably explained why the Luvdisk pair had a powerful bond. While the couple didn't agree on some things, they found a way to work it out. Especially after getting a wake-up call, it had helped Brendon and May be more open and truthful with each other. Nobody liked to get their feelings hurt, but sometimes, being honest was better than lying. Now the two were even more substantial with their relationship and it was clear neither were breaking up. No matter what disgusting and horrid things of a fake May and Brendon came out or what fucked up shit was said, the real Hoennians would always be together in love. Red wouldn't be surprised that he would attend their wedding if Brendon proposed to her.

The following two students sharing a room with the Kantonian could be placed more in the irony category. Perhaps it was because Red and Ethan had dodged rooming up, but the former would share a spot with Blue and Yellow. It was surprising to see that the spikey-haired Kantonian hadn't bitched, complained, or moaned about this arrangement. Before that one nasty incident during the fourth week of attending the Academy, Blue would've been the kind of person to argue and find any reason to battle Red had this trip happened then. Instead, he had gritted his teeth with annoyance before letting out a breath, muttering that at least he wouldn't be seeing much of the others in general.

Red had to admit that Blue had mellowed out quite a bit since the incident. Sure, there would be times when arguments happened, but probably discovering more about how the brown-orange-haired Trainer felt about things, including being forced to share Dorm 25 and being on the Battle Team, helped Red get a better sense of Blue. If worse came to worse on this trip with sharing an internship with the latter, at least it wouldn't be that bad.

Red then noticed Blue was talking to a bright-eyed girl with incredibly long blonde hair tied back in a ponytail. This made the Kantonian smile as he had to admit, it was a cute sight, considering the girl was Yellow. Red still wasn't sure why he hadn't seen her in any of his classes until week six and could only guess maybe it was due to Pokemon Nursing classes or something. It was hard not to like her in general, as Yellow had a very positive outlook and cheery demeanor. Plus, despite being nineteen, she was small, being one of the shortest students at the Academy. However, underestimating Yellow due to her height could be a deadly error. She was tiny but fierce at times. Although the blonde-haired student had a lot of patience, even Yellow could get mad. When the Kantonian girl did, her eyes became sharp, and her tone was biting to match.

Red only saw hints of the blonde-haired student when she got that ticked. It was mainly with Blue and telling him off. The spikey-brown-haired Kantonian knew how powerful Yellow's inner fire was if she could sometimes get someone as stubborn as Blue to shut up and listen. Even so, Red had noticed moments with the two. Whether it was mentioning the other or interacting, there seemed to be points of blushing and nervousness. Even if the pair seemed unlikely, they could connect in ways that didn't seem possible. Red was no relationship counselor but suspected Blue had feelings for Yellow. Although the latter seemed to be trying to help the other Kantonian as she knew there was good in him, the blonde student herself also had moments that suggested she also had romantic feelings for Blue.

If the pair hooked up, Red would support it, as both deserved a happy ending. The only ones who didn't were the sick fucks and freaks that only wanted any of the students just to fuck and nothing more. Nobody cared about them as individuals, only focusing on their looks. So it was a good thing since none of them were here, and they would die alone. Definitely not Yellow because Blue had gotten highly protective of her over one incident. He had gotten beyond pissed, his face twisting with rage and like he would kill someone. At least she would be safe with him around, and if help was needed, Red would be there since, despite everything, they were his dorm mates at the end of the day.

``So Brendon, May, Blue, and Yellow,'' Red ticked off on a mental list. ``And...''

One more student would be sharing the same room, for a total of six. This only happened due to arrangements in the hotel for the academy students who had signed up. Most rooms would host four to five people, but some could hold up to six. One would ask if such an arrangement of having both guys and girls share a room was wise. It wouldn't be as awkward as Kobukan Academy had Co-ed rooms. Brendon and May were in one, and Dorm 25 Red, Blue, Yellow, and Ethan shared was also Co-ed too. Since the school and this place did good business for years with the internships, sharing a room with the opposite sex was allowed, just as long as things didn't get out of hand. Plus, everyone was eighteen and legally an adult; it wasn't like they were children anymore.

Since Red had gotten used to how things were in Dorm 25 and had been Brendon's roommate for four weeks at the beginning of the year, this wouldn't be a problem for the next two weeks. That is unless things got awkward for the sixth student as Red's eyes glanced at her sitting next to him. She was staring out the bus window, not paying any attention to the scenery flashing by. Red could see her semi-reflection and that her beautiful blue eyes appeared deep in thought. Seeing her like that made the Kantonian's heart skip a beat, just like it had been whenever they talked recently or she did something adorable. He felt his cheeks warm slightly with blush, wondering what could be on Leaf's mind.

Leaf Gracidea Green was someone Red had encountered on the first day of getting to Kobukan. Since then, it had been quite a ride with the Kantonian girl since Leaf had a lot of personality. Red had to admit that it was sometimes hard to keep up with the brunette as she was a teaser. Leaf also had a ton of smugness and sass, and a number of people had given her the nickname The Queen of Sass. Red also knew that the Kantonian girl was very strong-spirited, and while she didn't pick fights and argue, she wasn't afraid to say what was on her mind. Leaf stood up for what she believed in and wasn't one to back down if it meant helping a friend in need.

Red had noticed that some might think Leaf, at times, could be pushy and perhaps too straightforward. That could be a matter of opinion, but maybe it was more due to her burning passion and hard work attitude. Leaf gave it her all, whether battling or school work. Red had seen the former first-hand, given she was also on the Battle Team like him and Blue. Even with this though, a number found it hard to deal with her. Red thought they were being unfair just because Leaf wasn't their type. It even went so far to a number of fucked up assumptions and statements. Disgusting rumors that somehow the Kantonian girl was bi when she wasn't or interested in someone she loved having multiple partners. Leaf had made it very clear that she would never share with anyone she was dating if that happened, and she had never been into girls romantically.

Even if the brunette was a fan of Rosa from Unova, who acted in movies, that was more due to being a movie lover. She never wanted a disgusting go with the Unovan girl. Plus, the whole fucked up things reported of what Leaf said, like having two boyfriends at the same time, was just a complete lie. The Kantonian girl never would share herself like that. At least Red hadn't been on the receiving end of Leaf's full temper and rage. He had seen her get angry, but that time had been dialed up to an eleven. At least the Kantonian from Pallet Town knew what lines not to cross with Leaf so far. Red was still learning new things about her. But even with all of this, there were things about her that he knew and couldn't help but admire and like.

Leaf having his back was one thing, even if some thought she was obsessive. But no one could deny the enormous step the brunette had gone for Red when he got into a nasty jam. It required her to face her significant phobia of water, which had happened during her youth. Leaf had been raised on Cinnabar Island, and her parents had been researchers in Pokemon fossils. Tragedy struck when the volcano violently exploded, causing horrible damage and causing Leaf to almost drown in the vast ocean during the evacuation. Since then, even something like a regular swimming pool could cause her to see red and shake violently with fear.

Even with this, Leaf had managed to muster the courage to help out Red, requiring her to cross over an open ocean twice on the back of a Pokemon. If that wasn't dedication, he didn't know what was. The fact she went to that great of lengths for him certainly was touching. Then again, maybe there was much more to that. Even if Leaf's teasing and antics could be a pain in the ass to deal with, the brunette had a good heart and tried to do what was right. Even with the girl's shortcomings, the Kantonian saw more positives in Leaf's personality, which he admired and found attractive. She could be adorable, as well as sweet and loving. The former usually happened whenever Leaf got flustered whenever she and Red were doing playful bantering. He liked that he could hold his own in a battle of wits against the brunette. Even if she seemed used to flirting and teasing, Leaf could become meek as a Litten whenever Red turned the tables with his charm. Seeing the brunette get embarrassed was lovable.

All these things with her were precious, just like when Leaf got her delightful and captivating smile whenever she was highly pleased. Some would argue that others had smiles like that, but Red found Leaf's to be the most enchanting, as the Kantonian knew in his heart he liked Leaf romantically. It certainly didn't hurt that Red found her blue eyes gorgeous, how long her beautiful brown hair flowed down to her lower back, and that her figure was appealing. Red also knew how good it felt to be physically close as the two had shared a couple of hugs and even ridden on the back of a Pokemon. It was surprising how soft Leaf felt against him.

Unlike the sick fucks and freaks though, Red was more of a gentleman and certainly knew to keep it in his pants. He wasn't just going to be playing around to get at her physically. Especially not after Leaf had, in a sense, confessed she liked Red. During week four, the brunette told him when meeting in the garden area of Kobukan. It didn't lead to hooking up, but a proposal to try a couple of dates to see if Red and her were compatible for a romantic relationship. The Kantonian had agreed as the feelings were mutual. However, getting to those had been more challenging than they thought, as shit kept getting in the way and denying the pair.

Their patience paid off, though, as Red and Leaf finally made good on that deal a couple of weeks before the summer break. Both Kantonians had hit the vast Inspira mall, her ideal date place. He could vividly remember how the brunette had been glowing with happiness the whole time, her glittering smile never once leaving her face. It had been a delight for Red as well to see Leaf overjoyed as they spent the time talking and exploring the many shops. Some things had been bought, which meant the spikey-brown-haired Kantonian had become the pack Mudbray, but mercifully, there weren't as many bags, unlike the first trip to the city he'd gone on. Red and Leaf felt closer than ever, and the cherry on top during the date was not only seeing her precious smile so much but that the brunette had held his arm. The two had also held hands, and though both blushed badly, the pair never backed off.

That had been a lot of fun for Red, who felt in his heart that dating Leaf was super close. It would take the right time to ask the brunette out properly. The Kantonian knew the two could make a romance work without a shadow of a doubt. He had discreetly observed how she interacted around him after that date, and the signs appeared to be there for love to blossom. That was why, on this trip, one of Red's missions was to finally ask the brunette out. He had even gone one step further when signing up for a room by putting Leaf as a choice. When the rooming lists came out, Red couldn't contain his gleeful smile at the news. Even if she was also a member of Dorm 25, just sharing the same hotel room could only help push them in the right direction.

In the present, Red smiled as he continued to look at Leaf, who hadn't changed her position while lost in thought. ``I swear if she does accept, I will make her the happiest,'' the Kantonian thought. ``I'll treat her right with love, unlike those who don't. Not that I'd share, but at least those sick fucks and freaks can be shown what it truly means to care for someone. Same thing for those who are idiots.'' Red never got why they did the fucked up shit they did. Trying Leaf with Rosa was one but also for some fucked up reason, Whitney had been mentioned. She, Rosa, Leaf, and Flannery would never have anything as all of them and the rest of the female student body weren't bi, gay, or into swapping or sharing.

Glancing at the brunette again, Red wondered what was happening in her mind. Leaf had been unusually quiet ever since waking up from her power nap. During the long ride for the first half of the trip, the two students talked before the brunette decided to rest a little. The spikey-browned-haired Kantonian had enjoyed seeing her peaceful sleeping face while flipping through his phone. Upon awakening, Leaf had spent the time just lost in thought, and this caused slight concern since the Kantonian girl was usually the kind to engage in conversation. At this point, he could leave her to her thoughts, trying to ask if she was all right, or poke Leaf to see if she was still breathing. Red went with the second option.

``Leaf?'' he asked. She didn't answer. ``Leaf!''

Red's slightly louder call caused the blue-eyed girl to snap back to reality. ``Hm? Oh, hey Red,'' she replied with a smile.

``Holding up alright? You've been quiet ever since you had your little nap.''

``Well, I was just thinking over some things.''

``Anything worth sharing?'' Red asked.

``Oh, nothing really that big,'' Leaf said before putting on a smug grin. ``Just some surprises.''

``Is that so?'' The Pallet Town native shot her a cocky smirk, knowing by now this was another round of playful banter. ``Well, I know better than to try to pry the information out from you. So you can keep your little surprises for now. Will they be at least something I'll like?''

``Maybe,'' she adorably shot back, laying her right hand on his left. ``But, you're going to just have to wait...''

Red felt the softness of her skin but didn't lose his composure. ``Well then, I look forward to whatever they are.'' A thought then came to the Kantonian. ``By the way, that does remind me...''

``Hm? Reminds you of what?'' Leaf asked, curious.

She saw the spiky-brown-haired student get out his phone and pull up something. ``It's the different locations to hit during this trip. Going to them is something I'm looking forward to. They're probably going to contain their share of surprises, but that's the adventure when you go to a new place. I even did some research and figured out what to do during my free time.''

The brunette was surprised for a second, as she could tell that Red was really looking forward to this. Leaf smiled, a warm, glowing feeling emerging. Preparing for something was like the Pallet Town native, a trait the brunette liked a lot. ``Well, look at you, already acting like a guide,'' she said, a touch of praise heard in her voice. ``And how well do you know Kape Karp?''

``I'd say fairly well to have an idea,'' Red answered.

``Hm, then I definitely have to call dibs on you when I go out when I'm not busy with the internships.''

``Don't you always get first dibs with me?''

This really caused Leaf to light up with happiness. ``You know I always do.'' Leaf then got that same smug-ass grin again. ``At least you've done your homework and won't get lost. Unlike when you wandered into the girl's dorm area the day we first met.''

Red rolled his eyes while letting out a huff of annoyance. The brunette was referring to how the spiky-brown-haired student had gotten lost on the first day at the academy. He had been trying to find his dorm and stumbled onto the female ones. Leaf had helped the Kantonian, but the sheer idiocy of not picking up a pamphlet was the reason for being annoyed at her.

Leaf saw his actions, giggling. ``You're never going to let me live that down, are you?'' Red grumbled.

``Nope! You know it mister!'' The brunette couldn't help but playfully laugh.

The Pallet Town native decided to give this round to Leaf as there would be a chance to come out on top next time she teased him. Instead, the two began to review the different points of interest Kape Karp offered. Red was careful to avoid anything water-related for her sake. A small part of him wondered about Leaf's phobia as the nearby ocean might trigger it. Still, the brunette must have known about the vast body of water and a way to deal with it, or else Leaf wouldn't be coming in the first place. Red figured he'd wait and see how the girl he liked handled that situation when they got to that bridge.

They lost track of time as the scenery and greenery transformed into tropical. Then, at last, the fleet of buses came into view of Kape Karp. ``Look, there it is!'' May squealed happily, her man Brendon grinning. Blue, Yellow, Red, Leaf, and all the students took in the view as the buses crossed a hill.

The sea of green trees stretching as far as the eye could see was the first thing seen. Vibrant in color, Red could tell the people who lived here took care of their home and that this area of Kobukan was primarily untouched by human hands, preserving its natural beauty. He could see the small areas cleared for the residents who called Kape Karp home. Other buildings and sections were the businesses that helped the economy were spotted as well, some obvious as to what purpose they served. Red spotted the ocean on the left, sparkling like thousands of tiny gemstones in the bright sun. And there, right in the center by the beach, was the humongous hotel the academy would be staying at. White in color with red shingles for the roof, seeing it caused a spark of excitement in Red.

The buses soon pulled into the parking lot, the students on board eager to get off and stretch their legs. Each driver helped unload the luggage while the academy stretched before finding their bags. ``Here, I found yours and mine,'' Blue said to Yellow, handing her suitcases.

``Thanks,'' she replied, smiling. Her gaze went to the hotel. ``I knew we'd be staying here, but this is more than I hoped.''

The brown-orange-haired Trainer nodded in agreement, stretching. ``I'm just glad to be off that bus. Sitting down for too long like that makes me antsy.''

Brendon and May came up with their luggage, pleased to be on their feet again. ``You get like that too, huh?'' the Hoennian boy said. ``Then maybe May and I will have company as we explore the hotel after we hit our room.''

Leaf and Red then came up with their luggage. She appeared to be doing well, as they were far enough away that the ocean couldn't be heard or seen. ``Well, if you're going exploring, perhaps Red and I could tag along,'' she said with a grin. ``The hotel's got several things to do as well.''

``Since when do you dictate my schedule?'' the spikey-brown-haired Kantonian asked, seeing this as a chance for round two of playful banter with the brunette.

``Since your Queen, Leaf Gracidea Green the Third is gracing you with her presence. And she always knows how to keep her subjects entertained.''

Red grinned, knowing Leaf would never force him to do things against his will. Even if the brunette only used terms like that occasionally, the Kantonian saw her as his queen for real, which is how he would treat the Kantonian when they hooked up. As for Blue, he didn't look keen on the idea of exploring the hotel with the others. He would rather instead do it alone or spend time with Yellow. Everyone's attention was gathered before the spikey-haired student could grumble his complaints. It was time to head inside.

While those in charge checked everyone in at the registration desk, the Kobukan students lounged in the lobby. Red was surprised this area could hold as many people as it did. It didn't have the same shape as the Battle Hall, which could host the entire student body, facility, and city visitors. The Kantonian guessed that the square feet and layout must be the same for a single level. Red didn't have much time to inspect the architecture closer because someone tapped him on the shoulder. Leaf handed over two card keys to get into their hotel room. ``Damn, that was fast for our group,'' he said, checking the design of them. It was simple, with maroon coloring and a yellow border.

``The groups getting the larger rooms were handled first,'' the brunette explained. ``Probably `cause the rest have regular rooms since there's more of them.''

Red noticed a small number on the key cards that read 450, figuring that was the room number. ``Well then, can we head to our room? That is if housekeeping isn't still getting it ready.''

Leaf checked her phone. ``Yeah, they clean the rooms for the next guess at two, and it's now 3:30. Plus,'' she jerked her head to the other four sharing the room, ``I think we're just keeping our roomies waiting.''

Grinning at each other, the two joined the others, with Blue leading the way to a nearby elevator. Red was then graced with a lovely view of Leaf's backside since she was ahead of him. The brown-haired Kantonian saw how her long sheet of hair swished back and forth with each stride and her bare shoulders since the beauty had on her usual sky-blue sleeveless shirt. Red had to then mentally smack himself so his eyes didn't go down further, lest he saw her curvaceous legs and tempting ass as Leaf walked. It didn't help that the girl he liked usually wore a red skirt that was just long enough not to reveal anything unwanted.

``Focus man,'' the spikey-brown-haired Kantonian told himself. ``I'm sure there will be plenty of time to check her out later after I ask her out. Although...'' He wasn't sure if Leaf would even be in a bikini due to her phobia of water. But it was better to practice not looking at places he wasn't supposed to if she would be. Red did respect the brunette's feelings and knew she was a trophy or object to be ogled over. Unlike those who saw her as nothing but something to fuck.

Mercifully, the walk to the elevator was short, and the group of six got in. The ride up to their room on the fourth floor was quiet. The only sound was the calming and relaxing typical music when riding on one of these boxes. Red did notice Leaf chose to stay by his side, their bodies nearly touching. Taking a quick scan, the Kantonian figured it wasn't due to being cramped; she just wanted to be closer. This gave Red a bit of hope that a successful hook-up with Leaf was even more possible.

The welcoming ding sound of the elevator indicated the group of six had made it to the fourth floor. Emerging, Brendon took the lead, this time down a hall that had rooms 440 through 455. The even-numbered ones were on the right side, and after making their way down the long carpeted floor, the group of six made it to 450. Brendon got out one of his key cards and inserted it into the slot. The familiar clicking of the lock was heard, and a green light flicked into existence. The Hoennian pulled on the handle, opening the door for May first. ``After you,'' he offered.

She sent him a loving wink and headed in, with everybody else following suit. May turned on the lights and saw what they were dealing with. ``Oh my!'' the light-brown-haired cutie gasped as her blue eyes took it all in.

``Oh yeah, this is nice,'' Blue commented, going up to the blinds for the main window and pulling them aside.

The sunlight streamed in, lighting up the place. Red first noticed the dark blue carpet, which matched the light blue walls. Right by the considerable window were a few lounge chairs with high backs made of material meant to look like white leather. These were placed around a large wooden circular table. The brown-haired student next saw on his left two white doors that he guessed led to two of the bedrooms here. On the right was one more white door that looked a bit fancier and an area with a small kitchen setup. A wooden countertop with a couple of cabinets was attached to the kitchenette?s wall. It was clear the reason this room was more extensive than a normal one was because this was set aside for small meetings and parties.

Yellow looked out the main window, grinning at what she saw. ``It looks like we got a good town view from here,'' she said.

Leaf and Red saw what the petite blond-haired student meant, and the latter could tell that the former felt much better with this arrangement. Seeing the ocean outside constantly and so close might be bad for her phobia. ``Looks like we'll be set for the next two weeks,'' the brunette added with a smile.

``So then, should we establish some rules for the room?'' Brendon asked. ``I know how Red was as a roommate before, but three of you are totally unknown to me.''

Blue took a deep breath with his eyes closed. Red was surprised as it looked like the spikey-brown-orange-haired student was composing himself. Was he trying his best to be polite? ``Yeah, there's some... things we need to establish,'' he said, looking mainly at May and her man. ``Firstly, clean up after yourselves. I don't want to live in other people's filth. Thankfully, housekeeping will take care of many of the chores.''

``Sure, that's easy for me and Brendon to do,'' May replied. ``Since me and him co-dorm together, he definitely makes sure to keep our room clean.''

Red noticed Yellow looked a bit sad while looking at Blue. Did the petite cutie want something like that with the latter? The brown-haired Kantonian didn't see Leaf's sad look briefly flash while glancing at him. ``So then, keep the place neat, got it,'' Brendon said. ``What about who makes the coffee? I usually take care of myself and May's needs with a cup of joe.''

``Blue and I usually do for our dorm, but you're free to handle your own if you want,'' Yellow said this time. The former didn't try to contradict her, just nodded in confirmation.

``Sounds simple enough,'' Leaf added and then grinned. ``Now then, about the rooms...''

A quick look revealed that one was a master-like bedroom with one king-sized bed, and the others had two beds. At least each had its bathroom, complete with a shower. ``Oh, look at this!'' May squealed to Brendon when seeing the first room.

He grinned like an idiot, but Blue cleared his voice before the Hoennian could utter a word. ``That's the next rule I need to talk about.''

``What? You want the big-ass bed to yourself?'' Brendon asked, frowning.

``No, I'm not going to be that selfish. It's more to do with...'' Red saw Blue was struggling to find the right words to use. ``Okay, I'm just gonna be straight here. There's six rooms and no couch, right?''

``Yeah.''

``So obviously, two of us will need to share one bed; the rest get the other beds. I know you and May are a couple, so it's only fair you two get the primary bedroom. I'm not sharing a room with Red, though.'' That part was no surprise, but then the Pallet Town native realized another problem. That meant he'd have to share with either Yellow or Leaf. The same thought occurred to the remaining ladies, but Blue continued. ``My only condition for you and May to share the same room is...'' Blush crept onto his face. ``Is keeping whatever happens in there down, got it?''

Leaf got slightly confused by what was said, while Yellow got embarrassed. Red watched this like it was some sitcom, holding his breath to see what would happen. The spiky-brown-haired student could almost hear the click in Leaf's brain as she flushed with embarrassment as she got it. Despite how the brunette teased and flirted, it seemed the beauty might be more innocent than Red first thought when it came to naughtier things. It wasn't being naive, but more on the lines that Leaf hadn't gotten past first base. Seeing her flustered like that was always adorable. Red's gaze turned back to Brendon and May, amusedly at their reactions.

They had also gotten what Blue meant. The former had a sheepish and apologetic grin while his cheeks were tinged with red. The latter was also blushing, but her eyes were glaring daggers. ``Er, um...'' Brendon mumbled.

``Excuse me, but what me and my boyfriend do is none of your damn business,'' May said coldly. ``I appreciate you trying to be flexible, but you're crossing a line Blue.''

``Look, I swear I'm not trying to be a dick here!'' the spikey-haired Kantonian replied. ``I just don't need to be kept up at night and sleep-deprived so I don't do a shitty-ass job at the internships! We all need to do well! I'd rather not hear you two being loud with, well, whatever goes on between you two at night!''

Now Brendon got the same angry look as his girlfriend. ``Wait, how the hell do you...?'' he began.

Yellow decided to save Blue from the fire. ``I'm sorry, but it's my fault,'' the petite blond-haired student said. ``I accidentally let it slip to Blue when we discussed who we'd be rooming with on this trip. I know about you and May because I talked to Wally, and he mentioned how you two keep him up at night due to being too loud.''

Now Leaf was smirking with amusement at Brendon and May despite her blush. Red hoped she wouldn't tease the two too badly. As for the Hoennian couple, their annoyed faces went straight to mortification, and both were crimson in the face. ``Shit...'' was all he said while she covered her face with her hands.

``Look, I'm just as embarrassed as you, but if we're going to make it through the two weeks without killing each other, then some common ground has to be met,'' Blue stated. ``I'm not going to deny you two anything. But it's only going to work if you can be tolerant and flexible like I'm trying my damned hardest to be. I'm trying to make the best situation with what we've got.''

Red was taken aback but also impressed at how the Kantonian was tolerating so much. Before this, Blue wouldn't have even considered such a notion. Sure, the spikey-haired student could still be stubborn-headed and a pain in the ass. But this was a much different Blue than before. Was it spending time in Dorm 25 with the current residents in general, or perhaps it was because Yellow was working her charm on him?

Everyone waited for the verdict from the Hoennian couple as the two took in what had been said. Brendon finally spoke after some uncomfortable silence: ``Well... Although that came from you, Blue, May and I will have to work on this. Now, I just feel terrible for Wally if me and my girl are keeping him from sleeping.''

``Yeah, we'll have to apologize to him,'' May added. ``Although I don't like that we were told this way, I'd hate it even more if my man and I were kicked out of this room and internship. I've been looking forward to it with Brendon.''

Everyone felt the tension ease up. ``It's just probably best to be aware of others,'' Red said. ``I'm glad you two are happy to be together, but that might change if I also don't get sleep. Plus, just be thankful it's Blue telling you this and not someone else who's even harder to work with, like Clair.''

Everyone cracked a grin, knowing how strict the Dragon-Type Teacher was. There were a few other faculty members and students who would have been even more of a hassle to deal with in this situation. ``So, think you two can handle my offer?'' Blue asked the pair.

``Yeah, we'll do our best,'' Brendon said. ``On the bright side, we might be too tired and pass out from the excitement and jobs that'll happen.''

``Maybe,'' May added. The couple then grabbed their luggage and took their leave into the main bedroom.

``One pain down,'' Blue muttered and took another breath. ``Now then, about the other rooms...''

Red then remembered what he had remembered earlier about either rooming with Yellow or Leaf. But it was the latter who beat the Kantonian to the punch line. ``Let me guess,'' the brunette said. ``You're gonna room with Yellow, right?''

The petite female tried so hard to hide her gleeful expression despite the happy smile on her face. ``It's either that or you get stuck with me arguing with Red or you,'' the spikey-haired guy stated.

Leaf made a face. ``Ugh, fucking hard pass to the left,'' she replied. The beauty turned to Red with a bit of an apologetic grin but always was blushing like the Kantonian. ``Sorry Red, but I have to agree with Blue on this one...''

The spikey-brown-haired Kantonian knew he could deal with this, get another room, or argue. There wasn't a choice. ``Fine,'' he said. ``It's only for two weeks anyway. I think I can live through this if you can Leaf.''

He noticed her dazzling smile light up her face. ``Deal.'' The brunette got her familiar smug and teasing grin. ``And here I figured you'd be all flustered about sharing a room with little old me.''

``Hey, I'm not that naive or a kid,'' Red shot back, ready to engage in playful banter with her. ``More like you'd be the one to be embarrassed, Leaf, seeing how you've gotten that before with me.''

Blue cleared his throat before Leaf could argue back that she never did, which was a lie, as she did from time to time. ``Do you two mind?'' he grumbled, clearly annoyed. ``For the love of Arceus, I'm not putting up with your flirting shit turned up to an eleven for two weeks. Try to hold it back.''

``Blue,'' Yellow said sternly, reaching and tugging at his shirt to get him to go with her. ``Just ignore them; let's deal with our luggage.''

The spikey-haired Kantonian shrugged and left without another word with their luggage being taken. Once the door to the second room was closed, Leaf let out a sigh. ``Guess some things don't change no matter where we go, huh?'' she asked.

``No,'' Red replied. He then looked at her. ``Listen Leaf... If you aren't comfortable with sharing the same room, I understand if you want to try to make different arrangements.''

The brunette smiled. ``That's very sweet and considerate of you, Red, but I'm fine with it. I don't think there's much we can do about the situation. If it makes you feel any better, I'm dead serious when I say that out of all the male students, you're the only one I trust the most to share a room.''

The brown-haired Kantonian looked straight at Leaf and saw the look she had. Her eyes and face bore nothing but the truth to such an extreme that Red didn't need to be an Esper to question the brunette. ``Alright, then I guess we're set to be roommates then. So...'' He grabbed his luggage. ``Should we check our room out?''

Leaf nodded and led the way. The floor and walls were the same color as the main room. A bedside table separated the two beds in the middle, big enough for Red and the brunette to share. While standard as one would find in a hotel, the beds matched except for the topmost covers. One had a lime green stripe, and the other a light-purple-colored one. There was also a closet and a small dresser to store clothing. As for the bathroom, it was white with plenty of lighting and sink space, so both students' toiletries could be stationed with no problem. The shower wasn't anything special; it was just a standard porcelain one with a solid curtain instead of a clear one.

``So, what do you think?'' Red asked. ``You like it?''

``I think it's wonderful and will suit me well,'' Leaf answered, grinning. She then blushed a little. ``Well, us really. It's your room too...''

The spiky-brown-haired also blushed but kept his head in the game. ``So then, what rules should we have since we've never done something like this before?''

``Hm, well, we're keeping our belongings on our own side. I think I'll take the bed with the purple stripe.'' Since that bed was closer to the wall on the room's left side, it gave the beauty a little more privacy with her stuff.

``Sure, I can take the other bed. I'll also do my best not to trash the bathroom. Oh, that also reminds me of another golden rule.''

``What's that?''

``We're not having some dumbass cliche or trope of being unable to knock or lock the doors and walk in on someone changing.''

Leaf smirked at him. ``Oh? And who says I wouldn't mind since it's you?''

Red rolled his eyes with annoyance. ``I'm serious here,'' he grumbled, and the brunette giggled.

``Jeez, lighten up; I agree that's a good rule. One last one is that Yellow usually wakes me up in our dorm. So it'll be up to you to make sure I get up. I tend to ignore my alarm, which wouldn't be good on this trip.''

``Like a gentle shake or poke when saying your name?''

``I'd say that would be enough,'' Leaf answered. She smiled with her eyes closed. ``I'm already excited for this.''

Red checked his phone to see what time it was. ``Looks like we've got some time left,'' he said. ``Dinner's not until six; wanna look around the hotel?''

``Sure. Sounds like a date then.''

The brown-haired Kantonian grinned. ``Fine, if you say it is, then it is. Let's at least meet with the others and let them know so they don't interrupt when wondering where we are.''

The two found the rest of their roommates waiting, all having the same idea. Looking at the hotel map, the group of six split into groups of three, with Blue and Yellow starting in one area, Brendon and May in another, and Red and Leaf in a different location. The plan after that was to reconvene with the rest of the Academy at the dining hall at six.

The brown-hair and brunette passed on a couple of areas like the pool and massage room while taking time and looking at the potted plants and art on the walls. While not overly a nerd for the latter, each picture caused fascination for the layman. Other intriguing objects were hung on the hallways, a few Red and Leaf recognizing that they had connections to either history or other Regions. The pair then stepped outside and took a tour of the walking grounds. It was like what was at Kobukan with the garden area, only the plants were more tropical. The two students even came across a few Pokemon like Ledyba, Combee, and Starly just hanging out in the trees or fluttering from place to place. One sign explained that some local Pokemon would come by and be free to go as they pleased. It was just one more reminder of the locals' respect for nature and Pokemon, preserving and living in harmony with both.

As the two walked, the pair chatted some more, this time of things that had no meaning. Red and Leaf just wanted to live in this moment and not worry about what would happen on the trip, plan for things, or even what the future held for them. To see the brunette smiling and joyful warmed his heart. This happy moment was something the Kantonian knew he could look back on twenty years into the future as one of the happier highlights of his academy life. If all went well with asking Leaf out, it would make this time with her sweeter.

Sadly, like with all good times, it ended, and the two made their way to the cafeteria. Brendon and May were here first and talking to Wally. Red figured they might want to eat with the green-haired student as part of the apology for keeping him up at night. He then noticed a few cardboard tables with some presentation boards. Looking closer, they had information about the different internships the students could choose from. It didn't seem like anybody else was going to those, so the Kantonian decided to wait.

It didn't take long for the rest of the students to gather. Once everyone had, those in charge welcomed the Academy to Kape Karp and expressed their hope that everyone would do their best during the two weeks. Red and the rest were told that once they had finished eating, they would make their way to the cardboard tables seen earlier, where they could sign up for the internships. The way those worked is each student was recommended to select a minimum of three, but no more than six choices. These lasted four to five hours daily, giving the students plenty of free time in the late afternoon, evening, and night. Call time was at ten in the morning, offering a few gathered some relief since they weren't morning people. Every two days, the students would switch internships for a change of pace. The weekends would be free periods as the Academy wasn't here full-time. The exception was Wednesday during the second week, as there was a local festival happening that the students could enjoy. Like any working human, a small paycheck would be given to each student on Fridays. Finally, who had been selected for what would be announced at dinner the following evening.

After all this had been said, the students were finally free to feast on the delicious food that had been prepared. Red found himself eating with Leaf and a few others. While it wasn't known what internships were available, people had good guesses, stating what they would like to do and what they would especially not want to do. Everyone was having a good time talking and laughing as the chatter echoed throughout the cafeteria.

The students all finished their meals at different times. Red and Leaf felt full and comfortable when they rose from the table. The two pondered their choices as they went to the internship information area. The Kantonian figured his best choices should be those he could stand to work for, and if he wanted to avoid someone or spend time with, say, Leaf, the spiky-brown-haired student had to consider wisely. ``Hm, I think I should see what she goes for a little,'' Red thought.

Taking a closer look, he could see a couple of internships that the brunette would not do, all involving beach work as it was too close to the ocean. Then, the Kantonian spotted something the beauty might do. It involved watering blooming plants and helping pick and sort the berries they produced. ``Hey Leaf, how about this one?'' he asked.

``Hm? Oh,'' she replied, seeing it. The two read over the description. ``Yeah, I think this one is my speed. I do have a Grass-Type that can help as well.''

``Yeah, you're Ivysaur should feel right at home like you. You know, cause your name and people thinking you have a green thumb.''

Red couldn't resist teasing the beauty, even if that meant seeing the brunette annoyed. ``Har, har; very funny,'' she grumbled. The Pallet Town native made his move.

``Seriously though, if it makes you feel any better, I'll sign up with you if that's cool.''

That did the trick, and Leaf's expression lit up. ``And you're forgiven.'' Red grinned, and the two put their names down on the list.

They then spent time looking over the other choices. Each had lists so the Kantonian could see who had already signed up for what. He put his name down on his choice for five different options, another being one he figured Leaf would choose. At least this gave them a better chance of working together some of the time while also having a break from each other at points. Once the two were finished, they decided to head back to their room. Neither felt like straying too far from the hotel as they had just arrived. Time dedicated to exploring the area could happen starting tomorrow. Plus, Red knew one of his Pokemon was probably dying to get out of his Pokeball.

The pair were surprised to find the rest of their roommates waiting for them when they entered. ``Er, what's going on?'' the Kantonian asked as Leaf closed the door behind them.

``Just a quick meeting for tomorrow,'' Brendon answered, grinning. ``We don't have to worry about our internships until later, so we're planning to hit the beach and have some fun in the sun!''

Red glanced at Leaf to see her reaction. Could she handle being that close to a large, open body of water? He wasn't sure if she had told anyone other than him about her phobia. But the brunette smiled as if there didn't seem to be any problem. ``Sure, that sounds like a blast!'' Leaf said. ``When were you going to head out with May?''

``After lunch, so it gives us a few hours to enjoy before dinner and allows us to have the morning to ourselves.''

The blue-eyed Hoennian was just as excited as her man. ``I can't remember the last time I went to the beach!'' she said. ``Everyone at the Academy has the same idea, so it'll be like one big beach party!''

``Maybe like a warm-up for it, as it's just the first day,'' Red said. ``Although, hopefully nothing ruins it like a Pokemon attacking.''

Blue's grin faltered a little. ``Wait... like something out of control?'' he asked. That sounded oddly familiar to him, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

``Do you remember how a Cramorant made it hard to visit at some points at the docks near Inspira?''

``Yeah. I'm still a bit bitter I couldn't catch it as someone beat me to it.''

``Well, that's not the only Pokemon that's acted unusual. You could say they were frenzied like the Absol Brendon here helped me fight.''

``I remember that,'' the Hoennian added. ``I do agree a Frenzied Pokemon attacking would be a bummer.''

Red had dealt with a few others throughout the school year, including an Alolan Ninetails, a Mega-Evolved Lopunny, and even a Hypno. He wasn't sure why they appeared; only a few theories existed. ``Well, if one does appear, I'm sure we Battle Team Members could handle it,'' Leaf said. ``Sure, I wouldn't want to get hurt or have the day ruined by one. But it might be a good chance to catch a strong Pokemon or give out teams a chance to grow.''

Blue and Yellow didn't say anything. Something was stirring in their brains like they were trying to remember something that had been forgotten. But they couldn't figure it out no matter how hard the pair tried. The two only knew something about the term Frenzied Pokemon awakened a sense of fear, protection, enragement, worry, and trying to be better. They then abandoned the attempt to remember.

``Well, speaking of exciting, I'm looking forward to what internships I will do as well,'' the petite blond-haired student said to help move the conversation from that topic.

The rest of the time passed, and everyone said what they had signed up for. Brendon and May, for instance, would be helping with food preparations at the hotel as one of their choices. Blue would be doing beach duties, but one of them was assisting Water-Types that lived in the area. Sure, he was taking that Elective at the Academy, but it was also one of the internships Yellow had signed up for. Red couldn't help but smirk a little as it also seemed to be a hidden agenda to spend time with the petite student.

Everyone then figured it best to go to bed and sleep. Red and Leaf bade goodnight to the others before retreating to their bedroom. When he got in, the brown-haired Kantonian went for one of the Pokeballs kept in his luggage. He opened it, and out popped his reliable Pikachu. The Electric rodent stretched, very content to be out of that cramped space. The male partner of Red usually preferred being out of the Pokeball but had learned to tolerate it when necessary.

Leaf smiled at Pikachu's cute stretch before hopping off the bed to explore the new surroundings. ``Looks like he'll be fine here,'' she said. ``I guess he'll be out as often as possible, like at the Academy?''

``Yeah. I hope that's okay with you as now we have a third roommate.''

``Oh, I don't mind. I think we'll get along well enough.'' The brunette then went for her luggage and got out her team, placing the Pokeballs in an easy-to-reach area. She then grabbed some clothing items, toiletries, and other bathroom essentials. ``Anyways, mind if I shower first Red?''

``Yeah, go ahead,'' he offered. Red got out the rest of his team and placed the Pokeballs in their area as the brunette took her leave.

Red was left to his thoughts, and Pikachu hopped onto his bed. ``We made it buddy; I hope you're ready like when we got to the academy.''

``Chaa...'' the Electric-type chirped. The two always had a close bond, so the Kantonian could almost understand his partner?s words and thoughts.

``Yeah, I'm glad you're rearing to go as always. I hope you're okay with Leaf rooming with us. She's fine with you, but how do you feel?''

``Pika!''

Red grinned. ``I figured you'd be cool with it; she's nice after all...'' Pikachu could sense something was up with his Trainer and tilted his head to the side with a questioning look. ``Can you keep a secret?'' The brown-haired whispered how he hopped to ask the brunette out. ``I only want to let you know if you see her around much more. Don't worry, I won't forget you at all. But she'll take up my time, too, if she does say yes.''

``Pika! Pikachu!'' the Electric-Type exclaimed.

``I'm glad you approve and support my decision,'' Red said, petting Pikachu's soft head. ``Let's do our best here as well.''

He then flipped through his phone, waiting for Leaf to emerge. When the brunette finally did, the Kantonian noticed she was wearing a Nimbassa City Amusement Park T-shirt with one of the towels firmly wrapped around her waist to cover her lower half. This was mainly done to hide her pajama shorts, which were shorter than average. ``The shower's ready for you,'' she said.

Red liked how fresh Leaf looked, her lengthy hair damp with water. He grabbed the things he needed as Pikachu decided on a spot to sleep. ``Is there any particular time I should wake you up?'' the Kantonian asked.

``Normally, Yellow wakes me at 7:30, but since we don't have anything to do until the afternoon, if I'm not up by then, wake me up at 9:30.''

``Sure.'' There was an awkward pause. ``Well, see you then. Goodnight Leaf.''

``Goodnight Red.'' Her tone held amusement and love as the brunette set the alarm on her phone before settling into bed. He went into the bathroom, enjoying the shower time and getting ready for sleep. When the Kantonian emerged, he saw the lights were out, and Leaf appeared to be in a peaceful sleep. Red tip-toed to his bed and slid in, feeling tired. Soon, he was out like her, and the first exciting day at Kape Karp was over.

Author's Notes: Due to how lengthy the whole story is, I felt dividing it up into parts was the best way to go. Part 2 will be out soon.

Love at the Kobukan Sea (A lore friendly PALf story) part 2
So with summer of 2024 here, the time has come for me to post the first part of this as I was inspired by a certain Pokemon game called Pokemon Academy Life Forever. If you've never heard of it, just look it up on google or youtube. I would recomend palying through the weeks availble first then read this. If not, hopefully this story will get more people interested in it.
